Hi folks! Just wanted to introduce myself. I’m Meaghan, and this is my third Freezing Saddles and my fourth year as an all-season bike commuter.

Last year was a big biking year for me – I participated in the Climate Ride, a beautiful three-day ride across Skyline Drive and back to DC. As part of the training for that, Dan (one of our other Team 2 members and my spouse) and I did a two day round-trip along the C&O to Harper’s Ferry. Can’t recommend that ride enough, it was gorgeous!

I commute at least four days a week, and I try for five. I’m looking forward to some weekend group rides with the team, although Dan and I will have to tag team a bit as we have a kiddo.

Great to meet some of you last night, and I look forward to meeting everyone else!

folie à deux sounds serious! wow!

nice to meet 5 of ya last night!

i’ve been an all season commuter for awhile. i like to ride mountain bikes, and i like to pretend to take cyclocross seriously.

unfortunately I broke my collar bone around Thanksgiving in a cx race, and have been recovering from that. i just got the ok to start riding again, so i am planning to start making up for my slacking thus far :)

    Hey all,
It was good meeting several of you last night, here are my suggestions for our team name:

    Team 2 “F”ing Cold Outside
Team 2 Cold for this Sleet
Team 2 Legit 2 Quit (Riding Just Cuz it’s Cold Outside)

I am a first time freezing saddles participant and a winter rider for above freezing temps, when the weather is below freezing I only log miles on bikeshare bikes because I live at the top of the hill on Wisconsin.

    Hey,
Since you can do voting polls in Facebook groups I started a poll for the team name in the team Facebook group https://www.facebook.com/groups/161868077782035/

I should have introduced myself before getting down to business, huh?

I’m Daniel. I live in Manor Park (between Petworth & Takoma) with a first grader, a cuddly pitbull, and your teammate and mine megoc42. I’m a year-round bike commuter (to Courthouse / Clarendon area 4x a week), amateur mechanic, trying to get into touring a bit. It’s my second Freezing Saddles and my second year on a team with sszibler and cycloskier (hi again).

This is my disappointed face when it’s actively snowing and they haven’t treated the roads and I take Metro to work. Safety, schmafety :p

Hi! I’m Caitlin, or Cait; marine biologist by day, doctoral student by night, which is why I wasn’t at the happy hour last night, and why this and next week’s rides are short and sleazy. I’m in Baltimore all day for classes these two weeks, so I’m trying to fit in rides when I can! Usually, my commute is from my apartment in Glover Park to my office in Silver Spring, a nice 15-or-so-mile ride up the CCT and through the wild streets of Chevy Chase (GBT, RIP), depending on the temp and how late I’m running. This is my 2nd year of BAFS, and my 9th year of all-year riding. I’m allegedly doing a 150-mile ride in June, although I’m still on the fence about whether I want to do it / train :)

I like “Menage a Deux” or “Team 2 Legit 2 Quit (Riding Just Cuz it’s Cold Outside)”

Looking forward to meeting all of y’all!

PS, Carol, I used to pass you heading in the opposite direction all the time on the CCT!

I realized that I posted all the relevant information about team administrative stuff, and never introduced myself.

I’m Carol, your not-so-esteemed captain. I was also the person in charge of registering you all this year. This is my fourth year in Freezing Saddles. I live in Bethesda, but opted to be on a DC team this year, because my office is in DC and I’m in DC any hours that humans normally want to get together. Because I’ve been on a Maryland team for each prior year since we started having teams organized by geography, I haven’t been on the same team as any of you in prior years. My commute is usually 12.5 miles each way, down the CCT and over to Chinatown. I have twice managed to win the tortoise prize for slowest person in all of Freezing Saddles, so I typically avoid group rides where I can hold up the entire party.

In my other life, I’m a lawyer. Yes, I know I should have warned you in advance, so you could all have bribed Sunyata not to be on my team! :D I live with my wife and dog (Powderpuff Chinese Crested). I have a son who lives in Columbia, MD, and a daughter who lives in Portland, OR. I have three grandchildren (ages 2-5), and two more on the way. After a few years of hauling grandchildren around in a trailer, I just bought my oldest granddaughter her first bicycle.

Looking forward to meeting everyone who wasn’t able to be at happy hour!

I’m pleased to announce that every single person on the team is now signed up for both its Strava club and its Facebook group. I think this is the fastest team organization any of my teams has ever achieved!

And, we have a winner for team name. Henceforth, Team 2 is known as Folie à Deux.

    Hi team!

Im Susan Kelleher. Was sorry to miss everyone on Wednesday but am out of town for the annual in law post holiday visit. I live in Adams Morgan with my husband and our seven bicycles and I’m a stagehand with Local 22 IATSE. I spend most of my work time at the Kennedy Center so I have a winter friendly 2.5mi commute. I’ll be back to it on Saturday, my apologies for the low mileage so far. There’s a lot of snow and ice in western PA….

This is my second freezing saddles- I participated in 2016 also.

Thanks to Carol for getting us all registered for this adventure!

Before they got bought by Trinchero, my favorite small winery in Napa. Apparently, however, now a Sonoma wine. Not sure what the story behind that is.

Their label makes it look all cute and romantic, when actually it means “mass psychosis” /shrug
