Hello hello and welcome to Team 19! This is your Captain speaking, Kitty (or Grace as it shows on Strava.)

It was wonderful to meet as many of you as I did at the kick-off happy hour. For those of you who I didn’t meet directly, I was the one dressed as a penguin. For that reason I have “Ride of the Penguins” as a place-holder team name.

To that end, one of our first orders of business is to decide what we want for a team name (or if we just want to go with that).

The second is to get to know each other! Please post to this thread with a brief introduction: tell us a bit about yourself, where you live (or ride), how many year’s you’ve done Freezing Saddles, your goals for the year/winter, your favorite type of ride etc.

To get things going I’ll go first:

As noted above, I’m Grace but I go by Kitty (seriously, they are used interchangeability, will answer to either.) I’m a Michigan native, but have lived in Arlington for the past 8 winters. I miss the snow of the North, but love being able to ride more months of the year. This will be my 2nd Freezing Saddles, and my 1st as a Captain. I have a somewhat short commute, but will try to make it up by riding everyday and taking advantage of/making opportunities to ride this winter. My goal is to ride with each of you at least once over the course of the competition. My favorite rides are at least 25 miles and end with a beer or baked goods.

Finally, I have created the necessary Strava group for our team, which can be found here: https://www.strava.com/clubs/BAFS2017-Team19
I tried to invite who I could, but the system would only let me direct-invite those who were on my “Follow” list. Please join up so the Freezing Saddles system can track your miles for our team.

    With that, LET’S RIDE! :D

Just a reminder that if you organize a team activity that is open to infiltration, please put it on the FS Official-ish Calendar.

    Team 19,

There are Doughneuring Pointless Prize bonus points for any of you submitting a Penguin Doughneuring entry. A Team entry is another possibility:

    Happy Doughneuring! e

I’m up for a Monday ride. I was going to help with the MBT cleanup, but I could ride before or after.

I’m working in MLK day but I propose a team ride anyway! I’m sure all the other teams will make a point to have group rides. I could however be a say Hanse point by maybe 4/4:30 to ride a few laps with y’all

Dang! Sorry I missed the suggestion of an MLK ride. I was in my own little world out on the W&OD.

We’re still one short on the Strava group–Weird Beard, where are you? We need you to add to our points! 😮

Hello friends! I’m your new team member, Bob Cochran. I want to thank Kitty deeply for providing such positive support for my rides. I’m quite glad that I’ve started contributing points to the team.

Thanks so much — and I hope to meet all of you some day.

Keep rocking it out there, Bob! Biking in the winter is challenging (especially when recovering from being sick). Massive kudos to everyone who gets on the bike, whether you’re new and just figuring it out or you’re a seasoned commuting warrior who can bike through anything.

Hello my peddling penguins! An invitation to a team-only ride is up on Strava right now for THIS SATURDAY!

Remember, this is a meet-and-ride for Team 19 only. Decimators, Snowflakes, nor Idiots (no matter how merry) etc. should sleep in. :p

Decimators will be resting up on Saturday for the mandatory Team Century on Sunday. We’ll probably only do a team metric on Saturday.

How can you expect anyone who calls themselves Idiots to be able to comply with (let alone understand) what you’re telling them to do? :D

I am offended at the way this post is heading. Especially with the derogatory comments aimed at idiot riders!!

If I didn’t know better, I’d say that you all lived in a country with someone like Donald Trump as President!

For now perhaps… but it’s only a matter of time. Penguins don’t just waddle, they march!

    I resemble that remark!
