Welcome to Team 17’s thread. Team 17 is the best team EVER! You know why? Because both captains (EMM and Mtansill) are Michiganders!
We’ll update this thread with rides, events, name ideas and all of that after happy hour.
Booo Michigan! Booooooooo!

Rich,
For whatever reason, rwhitten is what’s in the registration database which I pulled from to create the spreadsheet I used for teams. I’ve fixed it in as many places as I can. But we know who you are!

ParticipantMillie proposed Bicycles on Ice last night which I thought was cool.
So…introduce yourselves everyone! I’ll start. I’m EMM (aka Erin). I live in Alexandria right by Shirlington, and commute into SW DC. This is my third freezing saddles, although I’ve been bike commuting 5-6 years. I think I mostly have the cold weather gear situation figured out by now, at least for my commutes. I mostly ride road, but I bought a gravel bike last year and signed up for the Croaton Buck Fifty (100 miler) in March for some crazy reason.
My favorite rides include those with coffee, donuts, pie, and other delicious themes, so expect at least 1-2 invites to those out of me this year. I’ll be doing a few gravel training rides as well this winter, so if anyone is interested in joining, let me know and I’ll loop you in.

ParticipantFor our team name, as a nod to our captains (both from Michigan), I propose a nod to the cultural juggernaut from Detroit: Vanilla Ice and his one-hit song

Either Google or the live stream from your family room.

This gets my vote!
Chuck aka chuxtr here aka the guy responsible for putting together this year’s teams. Also sponsoring the #FS2019coffeeride and Points per Mile pointless prizes. I live in Arlington aka Amazonville, just off of Columbia Pike sort of near Fort Myer.
My third year of playing FS. Was a team captain last year but just here for the popcorn this year. I’m one of the handful of token ex-racer, roadie, elitist, snobs amongst all of y’all.
I don’t commute. Just ride my bike to ride. Mostly on actual roads. As a former bike messenger, I’m probably more immune to cars/traffic than a lot of other cyclists. But no longer worried about how fast I ride, so just as happy to be on the bike trails at a relaxed pace. Love coffee rides and hope we can either ride together to coffee or meet up for coffee as a team sometime. And would love to do a team ride to/meet at Duffy’s Irish Pub in DC one weekend. The owner is a good friend and happy to accommodate an unruly group of cyclists for lunch. They have a fully enclosed beer garden area that we could use for bike parking since during the winter no one is likely to be sitting outside. If any of y’all are interested, I’d be happy to lead a hill ride if you feel like engaging in a little sado-masochism. You know what a sadist is, right? A masochist who practices the Golden Rule.
I actually lead a hill training ride on Wednesday nights during the “riding season” (April-September). People are always surprised at all the hills in Arlington and how steep some of them can be. A typical hill ride is ~20 miles and ~2,000 feet of elevation gain but I can adjust it downwards. Just remember that what doesn’t kill you … well … doesn’t kill you. Coffee afterwards, of course!

rickyd. Mountain biker through and through, but riding off-singletrack isn’t so bad if the trails are muddy.
I live and work in College Park, so my commutes are short since I work from home. I used to race very poorly on mountain bikes, but I have a bum heart and can’t push too hard anymore.
I don’t own a road bike. I ride mountain bikes with slicks and can’t go as fast as my tucked down, aero-helmeted brethren (cough, Chuxtr
). I prefer slick-tired MTBs because it’s easier to hop and play around on them, one method that keeps me entertained when riding on asphalt. In fact, I started the Silly Rabbit Trix pointless prize this year, so try some, film it, and post it up!
Cap’n Millie and I ride together not too unregularly, and I’ve ridden with Cap’n Emm on big group rides. Looking forward to riding with the rest of you!

For the record, my other bike is a slick-tired MTB (with a second set of wheels with knobbies if I have to venture out in the snow … like this weekend). I actually call it my FS steed because I’ll ride it a fair bit for FS when I don’t have time to do a “real” road ride and want to make sure I’m contributing to my team. With platform pedals, easy to just get out on it for a ride. Especially all those sleaze rides!
