ParticipantYay Liz! What a nice surprise it was to see that you are our captain! For those of you who don’t know, Liz is a third time Freezing Saddles participant, a certified League of American Cyclists instructor, a Rapha Festivus award winner (for riding 500 km between Dec. 23 and Dec. 31) and an all around awesome person. We’re in good hands.
As far as team names, we are in no way wedded to the number 13, the square or anything else. We can choose any team name we want. As a past maker of awards that sometimes had team names on them, shorter names (2-4 words) might make life easier for someone.
One thing I was told about our team is that about half of us are in Virginia and about half in DC.

ParticipantHi Liz!
You missed a good happy hour…but I’m sure we are going to have even more fun times as a team!
I live at Skyline and commute everyday to work…I do a few rides on the weekend when I can get around my daughter’s softball and gymnastics schedule. This is my first year with freezing saddles…and I am so excited.
Kathy has held my hand thru this whole process and is an awesome rider, person and I’m so glad we are friends and the bonus is we are on the same team! Thanks Kathy!
One side note! I have made a personal commitment to ride at least a mile for 365days! I am currently at around 220 days! So you can count on that for this competition!

ParticipantHey Team 13,
Happy to join the FS Challenge. This is my first year on FS and was inspired to join by the Women & Bicycles group. I work from home in DC but use my bike to attend meetings and generally do errand running. I do the occasional long ride but I’ll be challenged if the temperatures continue to stay where they are now! I will likely not have a lot of miles but my strategy is to ride often rather than far.In terms of team name, I’m thinking that we can either work the luck angle or the prime number angle, but that’s as much as I can offer right now. When do we need to finalize the name?

ParticipantLeigh Ann! My fellow LCI, no?
One thing I forgot to mention: If we aren’t already “following” one another on Strava, please either post your Strava name here or send me a private message with the info so I can invite you to our team on Strava. That is needed for keeping our team score.
I am “Elizabeth MacGregor” on Strava.
Now I really have to get on to my Serious Business for the day.
Thanks all.
Liz

ParticipantIan here. I live in DC (capitol hill area) and mostly bike while commuting. Because I am in violation of Rule 5 (according to the ride-days table on the website), I will make extra effort to follow Rule 13 whenever possible. As for team ƐƖ names…i like the prime angle and the luck angle. Lucky pr1m3s? Freezing factors? There are also infinite naming possibilities related to winter weather.

ParticipantSorry, I also missed the happy hour. I’m im New Orleans for work, where it’s like four degrees warmer than DC (trust me, the huge let down of the trip).
My name is Bryan. I mostly commute from my house in Groveton (south of Alexandria) to my job in upper NW near Tenleytown. I will try to log more weekend miles a that’s my weakness.
Between good food, late nights and early mornings, my brain is fried therefore I have no idea on nomenclature except to ditto Lucky 13.

ParticipantHello team,
I’m Daniel Plasters, I live in the townhouses south of the Vienna metro and bike to work in west west west Falls Church. Its my first ever FS so I have no idea what to expect. Most of my riding is my commuting but I try to get out for quick rides on the weekends as well.
Our strava team is already set as Lucky Pr1m3s and I have no issue with that.

What to expect is lots of fun. I’ve made so many great friends through Freezing Saddles!
Everyone else is introducing themselves here, so I will too. I’m Kathy and, like eminva, this is my third year in Freezing Saddles, which is from its beginning. I live in the Shirlington area and bike commute to work near the Capitol. Most of my riding is commuting, but I try to ride a mile or more every day, especially during Freezing Saddles. Realizing that any one day I miss means that someone else would have to ride ten miles to make up for it keeps me motivated to get out there every day. Most of my weekend rides are for errands or fun destinations to meet with friends and/or enjoy a cup of coffee or a meal, but I also go out just for the heck of it and occasionally do group rides as well. I know a couple of people on this team pretty well – eminva and CBGanimal, and am looking forward to getting to know the rest of you (or getting to know you better) during Freezing Saddles. The competition aspect of Freezing Saddles is fun and has so many wonderful collateral benefits.

ParticipantHi.
I’m Tim.
~live in DC
~sometimes commute (but not that much lately for reasons)
~will try to ride daily (all errands by bike unless by foot)
~recovering from a bit of an injury, so trying to build miles back up
~Strava = Timo OJanuary 12, 2015 at 3:27 pm #1019806Terpfan
ParticipantSorry I didn’t ride in this morning. I have my new rain jacket to try out, but I had a 9am conference call and when I stepped outside at 7am to bike, my driveway looked fine, but actually was like a half skating rink so I decided I would just do a quick two mile ride in the evening rain.

ParticipantOur maximization knows no bounds.
Dead last in time in saddle as a team, but 8th in points.
I like the way we ride.

A bunch of us are riding there from Shirlington. Come join us even though we are not on the same team.
