A toast to my esteemed and soon to be all conquering Team 12 fellow cyclists!

Nile lager… the preferred choice in Entebbe!

Tusker Malt! For the discerning beer drinker in Nairobi…

And don’t let Boomer in this thread. He is a dangerous fabricator of lies. He is jealous he is not on our team. If you see him, ride the other way. And remember – as long as you ride more than Boomer it is a successful BAFS competition!

    Two-Week Bonk

    Hey Team 12,
Sorry to report that I’m on the sidelines for two weeks. Had a basal cell thingy excised from my calf, and now I’ve got stitches. Crap.
If you need to replace me, that’s fine. Sorry about the timing- not my choice. Dave

Don’t worry about it. You’ll get back to it when you’re healed. Just glad it wasn’t full blown cancer. Every frickin time I go see the derm she cuts something else off. It’s highly frustrating and I feel your pain.

Glad to hear it wasn’t something more serious. Take the time to let the wound fully heal.

Also, look into hand-crank bicycle attachments if possible ;)

I’ve slowed this week due to a cold that I got from my brother’s family (the 5 of them combine germs from 4 schools and 1 office, so it’s pretty potent), but once I’m back on the up-and-up, I’ll put a mid-February team ride together.

    Salutations Team 12!

Seeing as how we’re at the halfway point, I fail at following forums, and I have yet to meet any of you – I have an idea for a mid/late February group ride. Really any afternoon in Feb. is open for me except for this Saturday. My running club runs from Fair Winds Brewery in Lorton and I’m familiar with some routes in the area (so this may could for beer pointless prizes I see being gathered).

The proposal is to meet at Fair Winds any of the dates around 2pm (or 12 noon on the 18th since we’re holding a run at 2pm – this actually being ideal for a triathlete brick workout for myself). Their beer is great and there is usually a food truck on site on the weekends.

Route: 40k/25 miler(ish) from the Brewery, down Newington (narrow, not ideal, but should be quiet on a Saturday), bike lanes on Telegraph to Jeff Todd Way (I’m then unfamiliar with Jeff Todd from Pole to Mount Vernon but it’s highlighted as a bike route), then Mount Vernon trail with a turnaround around Collingwood. So, really any distance you’d like, with Collingwood being the 40k turnaround.

    Thoughts?

Cool! I like the idea of a group ride heading from Fair Winds Brewery (I swear, I did a ride a month ago that passed right by the brewery and completely missed it, but it was late at night) to Mount Vernon and back.

How about we do it on Saturday, February 25? It’s the day before my birthday, so the beer will fit right in with proper celebration ;)

Looking at the route, I think there’s a lot more to explore if you’re up for it. Jeff Todd Way is relatively fine after the side path ends, but I find Mount Vernon Highway to be a bit narrow when trying to share the road with somewhat fast-moving drivers especially approaching Grist Mill Park on either side (don’t even bother with the poor side path on the east side), so I try to find alternate routes when available.

Here’s my suggestion for a potential route: https://www.strava.com/routes/7587086

I’ve ridden on all parts of the route multiple times, and it can be extended using the Mount Vernon Trail (on the east side) and/or Fairfax County Parkway Trail (on the west side).

Anyways, I’m up for doing this on any weekend after this one (have family in town).

If you can lead that route I’m in! I’m familiar with the northern Kingstowne-y portion and have biked most of it. The post-Jeff Todd way is what would be new to me, so glad you know of an alternative. Saturday, February 25 @ 2pm?

Awesome! I’ll create an event on the calendar for a ride on February 25 at 2 pm.

Hey guys, great idea! Sadly, I will be in service to the gov’t on the 25th but that’s ok.

But the route actually helps me with the loop that I do out to Wegman’s and back sometimes, so it’s already a win. Mt. Vernon Hwy does indeed suck in places.

I happened to check the FS leaderboard today and saw that team 12 was at exactly 10,000 points.

Then I glanced down at my score – exactly 1,000 points! Weird.

Giving this a bump. Group ride coming up this Saturday afternoon (yay, you get to sleep in!) hosted by Team 12 – The Corporation (infiltrators welcome!).

The ride starts at 2 p.m. from the Fair Winds Brewery in Newington (Fairfax).

    Here’s the event info: http://bikearlingtonforum.com/calendar.php?do=getinfo&e=156&day=2017-2-25

Convoy information: If you want to ride together to the start, meet at 12:45 p.m. (wheels roll at 1 p.m.) in the gravel area near the parking lot of the Animal Welfare League of Alexandria (where the Holmes Run Trail meets Eisenhower Ave). We will use this route to get to the start of the ride: https://www.strava.com/routes/7709275

    See you there!

Since I live by the Eisenhower Connector I may try to ride to the start with you! Though, weather pending, the morning news said a chance of lightning and hail :( I’m good to also do this on Sunday if its junk weather tomorrow at take off.

Here’s hoping the forecast improves, but I am still planning on doing the ride regardless of weather because I will be busy all day on Sunday.

Don’t look now, but the Corporation currently has a healthy lead in the Team average speed category!

We’re not going to win points or miles, but maybe this is something we CAN win. I don’t know how, it’s certainly not my (lack of) speed that’s putting us up there, but we’re currently at 13.69 mph, so make sure all of your future rides average faster than that to keep us on top. The Slackers are behind us in 2nd place at 13.55 mph.

Woohoo! Only a couple of weeks to go. Looks like winter is going to slap us again in the face again this weekend, but the bright side is that a snow storm may actually miss us to the south, which is a rare occurrence. Hopefully winter’s sting will diminish next week.
