I just bought a gravel bike a few months ago — from FIX_BKS and the good folks at Bikenetic, of course! — and would love to hear about your favorite gravel routes.

My work schedule means that I’ll be exceedingly late to any weekday team HHs, but I’m happy to do weekend beerneuring or doughneuring rides any time.

What kind of bike did ya get?

I probably can’t make it to any HH before 6:30 just cause Clifton is pretty out of the way from most gathering spots (unless anyone wants to stretch their legs on Clifton’s thin, windy, hilly roads and meet me at the Main Street Pub).

I like I like TENacious Decimators….. This is not the greatest team in the world, this is just a tribute?

Decimation was originally the ultimate punishment for a Roman Legion that had done something terrible like mutiny. The offending unit would be broken down into groups of 10 and they would draw lots. Whomever lost was either stoned or beaten to death by his 9 comrades. All in all, pretty freaking awful!

Sometimes we’ll have to F’ the other teams gently. Unless there is an objection I will officially update us on Strava to the TENacious Decimators tonight.

It also generally means to kill, destroy, or remove one in every ten of. Wonderful macabre vocabulary trivia.

Hi all. I am Cathy and I live in Fairfax. Sorry I couldn’t get in for the HH. As far as names go, I like both deceminator and tenacious. I work in Fredericksburg so I obviously do not bike commute. Something about doing a 12+ hour shift and a century ride on the same day doesn’t seem to work. When I am not working I like to get out and ride during the week with the Arlington Babes and the Burke Babes (Babes on Bikes). If any of you ladies are interested (sorry guys) I can help you hook up with the group. They post last minute rides on an email list. I would like to do some group rides on the weekends and can meet up most anywhere.

Might have to take you up on this for my GF, especially if they have beginner friendly rides.

She can look up Babes on Bikes and find the link to request to join the group. There are all different ride levels. I met people in Babes on Bikes by doing 2016 Freezing Saddles. They do a variety of different rides – most on trails but some on the road. The person that posts the ride will indicate when and where to meet, the distance and destination and the anticipated pace. I usually meet up with the Burke group at South Run Rec Center or Burke Lake Park. The Arlington group meets at a number of different places including Vienna, Bluemont, Rosslyn, and Shirlington.

Ooooh. Komorebi didn’t answer. It’s a Jamis Renegade and it’s a totally sweet looking bike. I’m up for some gravel riding too.

I neglected to introduce myself. I’m Judd and I’m the captain for the TENacious Decimators. This is my second Freezing Saddles. I live in Arlington on the Columbia Pike and commute to near the White House. I do a lot of Hains Point laps to augment my commuting miles and aim to ride 30 miles every day. I’m currently on an 8 month streaking of biking every day. I’m also on a 7 month streak of riding an imperial century every month.

I go to numerous coffee clubs (4 a week if I don’t sleep in). I like beer a lot. I’m game for riding pretty much any time and anywhere. I host an at least monthly open invitation bicycle ride that I call the Bicycle Fun Club that are kind of leisurely and focused on some sort of experience. Last month it was a series of Christmas lights themed rides.

Komorebi is my primary riding partner and does a fantastic job of translating my biking dreams into actual routes that avoid cars and have rest stops. I’ve been talking trash about how my Freezing Saddles team would destroy her team for the past two months before we ended up on the same team.

I’m super amped about our team this year and our chances for winning. Freezing Saddles favors teams with riders that ride consistently even if it’s low mileage. We’ve got not only a great group of consistent riders but also a couple of heavyweights with long commutes to pile on extra points.

I also forgot to introduce myself. Whoops.

Hi, my name is Casey and I ride bikes. I live in the Fairlington area of Alexandria (less than a mile from Mile 0 of the W&OD) and work in Clarendon. I am also on a “ride every day” streak, since December 30, 2015 (so however many days that is). I have to be at work too early for most coffee clubs, so I am really jealous of all you folks that get to hang out and talk bikes in the mornings. I enjoy gravel and mountain biking, so we should definitely do some team gravel grinds. I also really enjoy beer, so we should ride for beer, too! I am training for the DK200, which is in June, so my weekend mileage will start to ramp up in the next few weeks (woohoo, extra points!).

Velo Viewer is a cool site if you really like to delve into the data of your rides. It also can handily tell you how many days your streak is at (404 for me!). I pay the annual fee, its like $15ish depending on exchange rates (website is run by a British guy).

I also like beer and gravel. Super jealous of all these coffee club meetups! My reverse commute is just too out of the way for me to ever make it to any of those. I do occasionally make it to Pete’s Tuesday Hills because like everyone in this competition I apparently hate my legs (and always end up late to work).

Umm, we might be Dewey Decimal lovers. I’m a librarian. :-)

Late to the intro game…. I’m Lauren and live in Pentagon City! Have been biking for about a year and a half as exercise and for fun. I work from home so biking is something that forces me to have some work/life balance. Really looking forward to some long weekend rides (sadly not this weekend, but hopefully next!) and being part of the winningest team in BAFS history.
