Newbie question: I take it a frame like that can’t be built up as a regular geared bike (e.g., with 105 components)?

I think the biggest problem is probably the rear spacing; I don’t think there’s a 120mm hub that can take a 8/9/10-speed cassette. Not to mention 11 (105 is 11-speed now). If that were somehow surmountable, you would then need a derailleur hanger; there seem to be some generic ones that fits in horizontal drops, but this wouldn’t be quite as convenient as vertical dropouts with a hanger. Also you won’t have cable stops for the derailleur cables. For the rear derailleur you could probably just run solid cable housing and use zip ties; not sure if there’s a way to accommodate the lack of stops for the front derailleur, though (?)

So, I guess, that’s a long-winded way of saying “probably not”.

Thanks. I don’t understand the technical jargon (i.e., horizontal vs vertical drops) but the “probably not” tells me to avoid looking at fixed gear frames when I really want a standard geared bike.

Yeah not really. Wabi do make road frames too, but only down to a 49cm or so. If you emailed the owner and asked though they might be expanding or be able to expand their range. Their manufacturing batches aren’t that large and they are pretty much direct-from-factory-in-Taiwan.

A great layman’s guide to all the jargon.

I saw this interesting analysis by Cervelo on 650c vs. 700c wheels. I thought in light of this thread that some might enjoy the data:

    A very informative article. Thanks!
