Sunyata
ParticipantOh my gosh! I did not even notice they were filming her. (I am glad they left out the part where I yelled at her to not slam on the brakes going through a water crossing, though!)
Although, I must say… I hope the promoters DQ’ed her and those with her that took non-neutral support on the course. Anyone remember the “Boo Bikes Scandal” of 2016?

ParticipantWhy would someone do a ride like that without some sort of sunglasses or at least clear lenses to protect your eyes from gravel and dust?

ParticipantIs this the ride where you found the ELITE Chaise Lounge? If so, GCN really missed an opportunity by not filming their rider taking a break there.

Those were non-neutral pickles, I take it.

Of course. Pickles are not neutral, they are acidic.

I do not know how this non-neutral support stuff works. What is it?

ParticipantSo… Dirty Kanza is a 100% self supported race. Racers are allowed to meet their support crew (which the racer provides… Dane was my support crew this year) ONLY at designated check points (there are three on the course). Riders should never meet their crew on the course and should only take food/water/mechanical assistance on the course that is neutral (i.e. a family sets up on the side of the road handing out water to ALL racers or filling up a bottle from a hose on a farm that is offered to all riders).
I get that her crew was out their filming and they probably had a media pass to be out on the course, which is fine. But she never should have taken those pickles on the course. That, according to the DK Riders’ Bible, is a DQ. (And after looking at the results, it shows that she is a DNF, so they did DQ her.)
A couple of years ago, a guy riding for Boo Bicycles was DQ’ed after his support crew was found on the course. It was a big to-do since this guy was a pro and came in top 10, I believe.

ParticipantI guess that’s why she didnt get time on the couch?
June 12, 2018 at 3:40 pm #1087907hozn
ParticipantYeah, that sounds perfectly reasonable to me. And they (GCN) certainly have no excuse for not knowing the rules.
I guess with only 3 checkpoints, I can understand why so many people are using hydration packs.
(I need to watch the video again, because I missed Sunyata — wearing Bikenetic kit, I assume?)

The video had her finishing the course, so I’d hazard to guess that it’s a sponsorship issue – GCN was partnered with 3T for this, whereas the chaise was courtesy of Salsa.

Well I assume their certification is strict enough to satisfy all, but I am pretty sure Classen is not a “heimish” company.

He said the pickles were “acidic”, not “hasidic”.

Yep… I am featured at the starting line. Bikenetic kit, white helmet, Source hipster hydration pack. Judd’s link above takes you right to the spot in the video (1:34). I feel kind of famous.
Also:
Race Report – Part One
Race Report – Part TwoThey are kind of long and wordy, and probably full of grammatical errors. 😮

ParticipantI love your race reports, though reading this has made me reconsider wanting to do DK200.
(I think I will enter lottery for next year, though heat is my real Achilles heel, so it is probably going to be an extra tough ride for me.)
