Wish I could come, but I’m out of town. You’ll have to find someone else to help you lead the ride:( — Laurie

Weather’s still looking OK for Sunday — Saturday looks lousy, but Sunday should be dry and warm-ish (for January) by 1pm.

Saturday: Rain and sleet likely, becoming all rain after 10am. Cloudy, with a high near 46. East wind around 6 mph becoming west. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New precipitation amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.

Saturday Night: A chance of rain. Cloudy, with a low around 33. Chance of precipitation is 40%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.

Sunday: Cloudy, with a high near 45.

I used this ride to blog about my concerns about the proposed Beltsville site for a new CSX truck terminal on Greenbelt Patch. Hoping to get some folks who may not know much about the proposal (MDOT hasn’t publicized it in Greenbelt or College Park, only in Beltsville, although we would be affected too!) to come out and ride past the site in the farms.

Keep the invites coming. I can’t make this one. I’ve already got plans for a Sunday ride.

Well, my magic weather crystal ball has had a sucky week. Last weekend they were predicting sunny 50s today.

I’ll go ride the course first thing tomorrow morning and see if the shoulder sections are snow- and ice-free. I’ll report back around 10am hopefully.

I just rode the course — the roads are dry and in good shape, and the wind was light, so an OK day for winter riding. The shoulder is a little narrower than usual because of the plowing on Powder Mill road up by the wildlife refuge, but still plenty wide. That said, it is chilly out there! Warm gear essential. After a 90 minute ride, my toes were cold — going to switch out my pedals and wear warm hiking boots for this afternoon.

It turned out the be a fine day for a ride, and, of course, here are the obligatory video clips of the brave winter warriors and their fine winter bicycles.

PS. All modesty aside, I thought today’s cookies were excellent. Even though we didn’t have any flour and I had to substitute pancake mix. -Jeff
