In case anyone is venturing out this morning, last night’s snow is not much of a problem — at least in south Arlington, since other areas might have gotten more snow.

Salt trucks have been out on some of the major roads, such as Columbia Pike, George Mason Drive, Glebe Road. Those roads are wet and there is a little slush.

By contrast, anywhere that was untreated is fine. Most of the snow has blown off the roads. (All the sidewalks I saw are clear.)What little there is, in some areas, is easy to ride through. (I’ve got slicks on the full-size Dahon and had no problems.)

Black ice? I did not encounter any. Salted areas were wet, others were dry. Some manhole covers did have some packed snow/ice.

Once the sun comes up, everything should be fine.

I rode the MVT and Custis at 7am this morning. Thin snow cover in areas sheltered from wind. Where the trails are exposed to the wind, most snow has blown off and it’s smooth sailing. Use caution in the snowy parts, and thicker tires are better, but its not too bad.No black ice to report.

I rode the full Arlington loop starting around noon. A couple of snow spots and some ice puddles, but it was all easy to avoid. A large tree had blown over blocking the 4 Mile Run Trail and the parking lot access road at Glencarlyn, but it did not affect the W&OD. Lots of little debris blowing around.

Wow, you guys sure are committed riding in this wind.

Thanks for the reports. Am really hoping to be able to bike commute tomorrow. Really need to pedal off some calories.

I rode the Custis and a few bits of the W&OD and MVT again around 3pm, and it was pretty much all clear, clear to the pavement. Great riding eastbound with tailwinds!

Honestly, the bigger issue is salt on the roads, yuck.
