ParticipantI’m fairly certain you started this thread for the pun, and then crafted your question around that.
Anyway, gloves are my next purchase. I’ve got a pair of PI’s that I don’t particularly care for, and a pair of LG Airzones that are alright. I think whatever gloves I get will need to have less padding…I like wearing gloves for grip/fall protection, but the padding isn’t really necessary…the thumb padding is what tends to bug me most. As with just about everything else, I think part of my problem is choosing cheaper stuff. When I was first starting to ride, that was fine, but given the amount I ride now, the extra expense is warranted, I think.
For cooler rides, I have the Castelli CW 5.0, which are awesome. Very comfortable and warm, but without overheating my hands when the weather is a bit nicer.

ParticipantI personally run full finger carpenter gloves from home depot year round.

ParticipantI recommend Specialized BG gloves
Well, honestly, that was where I ended up. I have bought several pair of POW gloves from jensonusa.com because they were really cheap. They (POW) make some really thin summer full finger gloves, but durability is not great. I only wear full-finger gloves after losing my wedding ring on the ADA century a few years ago.

ParticipantI have a cheap pair from Performance that’s at least two seasons old because it was the thinnest thing I could find that was still a glove. I don’t want gel, I don’t want thick material on the back of my hand, just some material on my palm and a thin mesh on the back of my hand. Turns out that’s hard to find, hence why I have crusty old gloves.

ParticipantI have a pair of Specialized BG gloves from a few years ago that I like, but are disintegrating. They had a velcro closure and were fairly easy to remove. I bought a newer pair last fall, and they don’t have the velcro. They’re difficult to remove without tearing the finger pieces. Also they hurt my hands worse when coming to a hard stop with my hands on the hoods. It’s getting better as they’ve broken in however. I still prefer the old style.

ParticipantDon’t do what I do. I don’t wear gloves in the summer. I haven’t for quite a few years. The only gloves that I found that were comfortable after 15 hours on the bike were the $160+ Rapha grand tour gloves. The leather dye they use gave me permanent stains on my hands. I thought it was kind of cool, but when I’d go to shake hands with someone in a business environment, I had people want to look at my hand to see if they wanted to shake it before doing so. It wasn’t a positive thing.
I double-tape my bars or use Fizik gel inserts under the handlebar tape instead of using gloves.
The end result of this is that I have a serious set of callouses on my hands by the time the season ramps up… They’re actually there all year, but they get a lot thicker. When I shake hands I still get questions, but the questions are positive, rather than “ewwwww”.

ParticipantMy favourite summer gloves are cheap “KHS” brand that I bought at a LBS in Taiwan in the early 2000s – I wish I had many more pairs. They’re fingerless, have light padding (not gel), a terry/cotton wiping zone, and a very light synthetic for the back of the hand. They also say “Adventure for life.” on them. 😎

ParticipantIf I remember I’ll always wear gloves, just because I know my first instinct if I go down is to put my hand out.

This is a big reason why I wear gloves. Even the fingerless ones help in keeping the wedding band safe. I actually wouldn’t mind fingerless-except-for-my-ring-finger gloves. On long rides I usually leave it at home.

My strategy was just to make my finger fatter–that ring is going nowhere.

ParticipantI bought some of those old fashioned gloves with the knitted webbing on the back. They have lots of air flow and they leave a cool looking tan on the back of my hands. I bought them at Bikes at Vienna. They were very inexpensive.

I saw them there last month and gave an audible “Ooooh! Nice!”

They have these at Revolution Bikes as well. Mine have ‘Rasta coloring. I’m not ‘Rasta but – deviating from societal norms – I like cotton. I dont like synthetic materials. Cotton knit bicycle gloves -> 😮

Yeah, I guess the fingerless ones I had/was wearing didn’t cut it
— but fingerless except ring finger would be awesome. I experimented with some plastic spacer/insert pieces to make the fit more snug but that was just really uncomfortable (my knuckles are just disproportionately large). Full-finger gloves work fine, though, so I have settled on that as the solution.
I am just glad I hadn’t selected the platinum ring …
