So, my wife finally decided she couldn’t rely on CaBi alone and bought a Linus Mixte 8. Unfortunately, there was some confusion and it turns out the 8 speed only comes in medium, while my wife is tall and needs a large (she rode the large 3 speed for fit). The 8 speed hub won’t fit on the large bike, which makes no sense to me, but it’s not something I can change.
So, we’re looking for alternatives. Essentially she wants a lighter and faster CaBi with some style. More than 3 speeds. Comparable price (the Linus is a little under $900). Available locally.
Based on my recent experience, I’d say look at a Breezer Uptown at Bikes@Vienna. They have single speed, 5, 8, and CVT versions.

I was just looking at those at The Daily Rider website, thanks. I kind of want to go ride a CVT just out of curiosity.

ParticipantBecause I know you’re sometimes kidical, I’d suggested riding the Yuba Boda. Bicycle Space has one to test ride. (I was there yesterday). You may decide it’s more than you want (in more ways than one), but it’s worth the test ride. We absolutely LOVE having it as an addition to our fleet. I’m definitely looking forward to taking it on date night (the rear rack can carry 220 lbs, so we can take one bike, without one of us having to climb in the box).
I should add that my first thought when riding the non-e-version was “wow, this is like a CaBi, but lighter, smoother, faster, awesomer”

I should definitely do this with the Xtracycle. Forget CaBi together.

ParticipantREI is advertising some Electra’s that look really cool; comes with fenders and basket with easy step over top bar.

Upgrade those fenders to Velo Orange aluminum and it would be great. I love the disc brakes. After using the discs on the Xtracycle I wish I had them on my Bianchi.

Yep — VO fenders = awesome look. Aluminum bike, so quite a bit lighter than some cruisers, easier to park and maneuver.

ParticipantHe said he wanted it “available locally,” not that it needed to be taken for a test ride.:p
