Helium balloons actually slow you down. I know from experience: http://www.twitpic.com/9ii38m
Towing a whole bunch of red balloons does have the effect of motorists giving you more room on the road though…
huh, interesting! I would’ve thought the weight loss gain from helium balloons would make you go faster. How about the clowns though? Maybe I’ll dress up as a clown for halloween and commute in on my bike. I think that would scare the hell out of motorists to stay away because I’m not dressing as any wimpy circus clown, I’m going full pennywise.

I haven’t tried it but Tim’s link sounds like it might help for cropping just a part of a ride:.
Noop. There may be a page error- loading just my segment on the overall segment leaderboard just bounced back to the leaderboard.
At least with my app (Cyclemeter) ANT+ speed/cadence data will trump gps data in the ride record thus reducing gps coverage errors- it would have recorded my actual speed up the hill not the time between GPS samples.

Oh yeah, sorry, I misunderstood what you meant. I think speed/cadence + GPS data is generally more reliable than just GPS data.

Somebody stole my KOM on the research road hill today: http://app.strava.com/segments/1181178
You should set up a segment for Lastner Lane (uphill).

I avoid that hill at all costs! It’s too demoralizing.

ParticipantIs there a way to set up a challenge group separate from the dashboard? I have a Red Lobster dinner riding on beating mileage among friends from London (he’s doomed anyway), Phoenix (gonna melt) and San Fran (a real contender). We are all Strava users but it would be great to be able to compare stats 4×4 instead of 2×2 or even “challenge” another user to beat a segment time, monthly mileage or the like.

ParticipantI think if you just create a “Club” and invite your friends you will be able to see just your group’s times on segments. Not sure there’s anything with monthly mileage though.
(On the segment leaderboard page, there’s a filter on the left which includes “My Clubs”.)

Yup- that worked. Didn’t realize that was how Strava looked at “Clubs”
Thanks!

Oddly, I only take it when I’m riding with the kid. Its a good day if I make it up the hill in the lowest gear without breaking cadence.
It doesn’t help when Tim starts imitating my heavy breathing! -
