ParticipantSpeaking of Strava, this is fun – http://www.jonathanokeeffe.com/strava/map.php?rider=136274&startDate=01%2F01%2F2008&endDate=12%2F31%2F2012&width=3&opacity=25

Just joined Strava, the app looks really nice! I’ve had GPS issues with Runkeeper lately, and have been looking for a cycle oriented app, this looks perfect.

ParticipantMost of the local segments I do are on my steel cross bike with a full pannier, so I’m embarrassed by my slow times! Maybe I’ll join once I’ve been able to get out more on my skinny-tired bike…

ParticipantI have been trying to export all of my runkeeper rides, but when I go to import then in to Strava, I keep getting “bad data” on 1/2 of the files

I wouldn’t worry about it, most of my rides on on my heavy hybrid commuter.

Just joined. Recent rides are going to look weird, though, since we’re on vacation this week. -jeff

ParticipantOK, I just joined Strava and figured out how to manually upload post ride data from Cyclemeter (history – email export – attach GPX to uploads@strava.com no txt in the email) but does anyone know how to get legacy data into Strava? Manually uploading 400+ rides isn’t going to happen. I like the Cyclemeter app quite a bit better than Strava’s- it sure would be nice if there were a way to link the two.

I’ve got a segment or two where I had Tim on the bike seat…. then we stopped for a snack. Go go 1.7mph average.

ParticipantOK. I’m in. I just have to remember to turn on the app as I ride.

Yeah I wouldn’t worry about it. Some of my rides are really slow and some are with a trailer or baby seat, or whatever.

Has anyone experienced any “bad data” .gpx files? I don’t know what is causing it, I’ve even tried to re-export them out of runkeeper, but they still fail to upload to Strava. If all else fails I’ll try to export them as .kml files, then use a converter to .gpx and try that upload. I’d really like to get all my rides transferred over since I really don’t have too many.
edit: answered my own question. I downloaded the “activity” .gpx file, then used an online validator to find the errors and manually fixed them… what a PITA!

You can email them to Strava. I did it when switching from Runkeeper to Strava a while back and it worked great. Here are their instructions (from here: http://app.strava.com/upload/select):
To upload multiple files from your computer…
For multiple files, or files larger than 25MB, send an email to upload@strava.com with your file(s) attached. It may take some time to process. Your activities will appear on your My Activity page when they have been uploaded and processed.

I had tried that, and got an email back saying there was an error. Ultimately it was just an extra XML tag in the files, I stripped the tag and then the files uploaded to Strava without problems. Thanks for the suggestion, though!
If anyone else has problems, you can edit the files with any file editor, but notepad will work best so it doesn’t interpret the XML. The extra tag was always a
tag without a closing tag.June 5, 2012 at 2:29 am #942146MRH5028
ParticipantBeen riding with Strava for a month or two now. Lots of fun and adds a competitive push to my rides. Joined up.
