Accidental? Charles M Schulz, is like, ‘it took me years to get that!’

Well done!

ParticipantI’ve been trying to come up with a strava art idea to express my displeasure at the events that will be happening this Friday. I was originally going to try and map out a frowny face, but I live in NW DC near the zoo, and there aren’t too many curved roads for me to use for my task. I was just playing around with the street grid near Tenleytown (using the gmap pedometer website) and came up with this ride idea instead. Thoughts?
Anyone else plotting any interesting strava art for the big day?

That’s on point.
I’m tempted to write “And the horse you rode in on” in big letters. Alas, I don’t have LSG’s cursive writing skills, or a big enough parking lot.

I live in Tenleytown and was also looking to do some sort of inauguration protest Strava Art. Do you mind if I try your proposed route on Friday? I’d love to try it and am new to Strava art.

Absolutely! I was going to try and organize a group ride of the route if other people were interested, but I kind of want to keep my schedule flexible that day. I ended up doing alot of doubling-back on the website I was using to make that graphic, so I’ll probably try a few more click-thrus to see if I can make it a little simpler! I think it will be great if we get a few people making a statement through Strava art on Friday.

ParticipantSelf portrait of a distraught Judd Lumberjack wistfully looking towards a closed Hains Point. The artist longingly dreams of the good days before Hains Point was shut down as a staging area. He dreams of the feel of tires pressed against road; of every curve and bump; of every tree branch that must be ducked; how is bike knows just when it’s time to ride between the two manhole covers; of how right that feels.

ParticipantI’m hoping to celebrate Obama’s last full day in office with a “Thanks Obama” ride early tomorrow morning.
Here’s the latest draft of the route that I’ve been working on: https://www.strava.com/routes/7424536
I tried to simplify it as much as I could, but It still involves going the wrong way on a few one-way streets. I think I stayed out of the restricted zones on (http://www.waba.org/blog/2017/01/biking-on-inauguration-weekend-2017/), with the exception of the area around the convention center, but I’m having a hard time finding any concrete description of those closures and what I can find makes it look like I’ll be fine. I’m still going to budget plenty of time in case I have trouble.
I live in Arlington, so I think I’ll ride the metro into the convention center and aim to start around 6am tomorrow (and haven’t quite figured out yet how I’ll get home afterwards). I’d love advice or company if anybody else is interested!

Try posting this on the FS Official-ish calendar with a link to this thread, in case that attracts anyone.

ParticipantWell I didn’t see Steve O’s post in time to add to the calendar, but I did go out bright (or rather dark) and early this morning!
Here’s the result:

(PS – in case anybody is considering riding anywhere near the mall this week, I highly recommend avoiding it. My ride back to Arlington after this was a real struggle!)

Hey this is really good! You should send him a copy!
Also it’s much nicer than saying something nasty directed at Trump, though we might be tempted to do that…..I’d love to join someone on one of these cool art rides! Though not at 6am, and probably not in the maze that is DC, though I’m gonna go there Saturday with the throngs, sigh…. Maybe I should strava my walk when I join the million people march (not just women — I mean really!) and see if it turns out arty….. :-p

I think we may expand on this in the future!
This was accidental? This is so much better than that….
