I have never and probably would never have considered Competitive Cyclist as a shopping destination until now. So that has to be a pretty big win for them. Because I rule.

They have decent sales every once in a while, but they carry very little that I’d need, mostly at prices I’m not willing to pay…mainly just parts/components. They’re basically the Freshbikes of online cycling stores (not that there’s anything wrong with that).

I managed to pick up several items from them at steep discounts, but then I get tons of banner ads from them on Weather Underground. :(

Pretty sure I have spent hundreds of dollars there previously. They bought out backcountry (and their affiliates) a few years ago I think? – so they carry a lot of inventory.

My thoughts as well. Bought some small stuff on discount a time to two. No interest in the bike brands but they do carry upper end bibs and jerseys which I have grown to like. I look at the summer stuff in late fall and the winter stuff in late spring. Looks like for those of you that are not on the top of size bell curve you can get some OK deals on high end clothing.

So an update–it doesn’t look like rides recorded on MMR and transferred to strava via fitness syncer are counting. I rode a bunch last week and this weekend, and my account credits are still 0 (competitive cyclist is seeing the rides though based on my profile). Strava is getting all the GPS, elevation, speed and other data, so this is kinda weird.

So I may switch to strava for recording all my workouts. I like MMR more only because friends are on it, but I like credits to buy stuff even more…And strava always says I’m faster than MMR…so there’s that ;)

I think it literally only counts data recorded in Strava. It also doesn’t count any time you accidentally leave it on, which I learned following lunch where I totally forgot to turn it off the other day. But I have been getting credits since I started late last week–credits: $5.50. If this legitimately lets me take off from price of gatorskins when I get to $30-40, I will be quite happy.

It definitely counts rides not recorded in Strava. I record zero rides in Strava, yet have a $$ balance.

BUT their system has been very buggy. Initially I had $17 in credits (which was high — I think it was counting rides retroactively or something). Or possibly my $15 credit from a previous purchase had just expired. Anyway, now I have $9 instead, which seems to match up with the number of rides since I authorized the app (I think minus a few, since they don’t credit immediately).

I have seen no credits since I authorized the app last week, yet all my rides show up on their feed. This is all part of their diabolical strategy, I’m sure…

Yeah, initially I also had 0 credits, despite seeing numerous rides in the feed. I surmise that the linking to your Strava acocunt part is working fine — hence the rides showing up in feed; however, the actually subsystem that translates those rides into $$ credits seems to be the not-quite-ready-for-production part.

For me it seems to only credit rides that are longer than an hour. According to Strava I’ve ridden about 9 hours on 12 separate activities since I authorized, but I only have $2.50 in credit. The list of rides shows 3 individual credits for $3.50 total, however, for the three rides I took that were longer than an hour each. Not sure why the discrepancy between the $3.50 shown in the list and the $2.50 shown on my account.
Not even my 57-minute ride from yesterday morning or my 42-minute ride from last Tuesday are credited.

Perhaps I shouldn’t reset the Garmin between rides and just count my whole week as one looooooonnnnnngggg ride.

are rides less than an hour ? My rides were showing up without points too. I found that they round to the half hour it one hour is a minimum. My commute is 30 min one way so I am now logging oth ways as a round trip with a long lunch break.

If that’s the case, I’m not sure any of this is worth it, considering I wouldn’t be shopping there otherwise. It’s starting to feel like a lot of work coming up with credits and then figuring out what to buy.

Just watch out for that tail wind that brings you in at 58 minutes.

My round trip is even shorter–usually less than 50 minutes. So I’ll need to log a ride with a long lunch break, another leg, a long nap break, another leg, another long lunch break .. . .
