In addition to leaving us a big batch of Duplos blocking the cycletrack, the Pride street closures this weekend saw impressive levels of illegal u-turns on Penn. This quadruple illegal turn is particularly impressive! I can’t wait until we get some curbing installed.

Sorry to hear the news, Jon, but glad you’re not hurt too bad.

Weren’t you on the news a while back saying those turtle thingies they installed on PA Ave. wouldn’t help prevent u-turns? Maybe you should call the station up about a follow-up story about how you were unfortunately right.

    I don’t think I saw this posted here: https://www.facebook.com/events/100295263647064/

Direct action Biketivism: Stop U-turns on Pennsylvania Ave
    Thursday, July 9 at 4:00pm – 7:00pm
Join us as we create a human shield to protect those using the Pennsylvania Avenue cyclotrack. DDOT is finally installing park-it’s on most of the blocks, but has declined to add any protection to the 1300 and 1400 blocks, in order to continue to “study” the situation.

What we’re going to do is this:

-Gather as many people and bicycles as we can in Freedom Plaza.
-Line up alongside the cyclotrack with our bikes.

This will prevent cars from u-turning, and demonstrate the unacceptability of continuing to “study” protections without doing anything to actually protect people.

We want to be peaceful and respectful–so we will try to stay out of the way of those who are using the cyclotrack.

If you don’t have/ride a bike, please come and show your solidarity and support smart transit choices!

This morning on my way to work, I passed a cyclist surrounded by three emergency vehicles (I think two firetrucks and an ambulance) at around Penn and 6th. Did anyone see the accident? I believe I saw the cyclist standing, so hopefully no one was seriously injured. The firetruck was blocking an eastbound lane of traffic, protecting the cyclist and his stuff as he was checked out.

This was probably not a U-Turn situation, since it was at an intersection, but this seemed like the thread to post in.
