you need a recognized disability. wanting a standing desk generally doesn’t qualify, unless you can convince one of those medical marijuana docs to write you prescription for one.
I’d ask. At my office, you don’t need a recognized disability. We have a section of ergo guys who are happy to help.

Anything (within reason) to avoid sitting is probably a good idea. Sitting is associated with significant health risks, even among people who are physically active. The more you sit, the more problems you have. Some recent studies indicate that this is the case, even if someone exercises a lot.
I hate sitting. When I had to leave my awesome job at the sign shop and go back to working in an office, it was actually painful to sit in a chair all day instead of getting to stand and move.

Note that the context was “special accommodations”; i.e., ADA. If your workplace has a mechanism for getting whatever you want, then of course you should take advantage of that. My point was that you can’t force them to do so under ADA unless it’s for a recognized disability (as opposed to a personal preference).

Looking for completely unskilled helpers!? If so, I’m in! I’d love to learn a little and see how stuff gets built. I’d be more than happy to provide some free weekend labor to do so.
Oh Steve, you’ve made a terrible mistake
Being that I have not had a weekend off in a while (besides travel), I will certainly take you up on the offer. Next time I need some assistance or I am working on something interesting I will let you know!

I feel completely wiped out after having to sit at a computer for 8 or more hours a day. Even with a lunch break, and short breaks for active stretching (leg swings, torso swings, arm swings). I completely agree with all the studies that show negative effects from sitting for extended periods, day after day.

A bunch of people in my office are getting the arms that allow you to move your keyboard, mouse and monitor up to stand or down to sit. It’s very popular.
I would probably get it but I’m off to a detail soon…
The thing I found difficult about this set-up (I used it for a bit) was that as much as I use my computer at work, I also use paper files quite a bit. This type of set-up really only allows you to use a computer standing, but none of your other work items like phones or files. A true elevated desk works much better IMO, but again, I want a treadmill desk!
