Well, more like rumble strips but still -ELITE cyclists use caution!
I dealt with these yesterday…they are no joke, especially compared to the few other MUP rumble strips in the area. I almost lost it when I went over them while trying to take a drink of water.

ParticipantFound those in the dark this morning… now if they’d only add a speed hump for the traffic.

ParticipantWhy are they installing speed bumps on a MUP?

Might worth inquiring with the Vienna BAC: http://www.viennabac.com/

They are definitely rumble strips, not bumps but they are the most pronounced that I’ve seen on the trails. Not really dangerous. Traffic around there (Cedar?) is really bad and going faster than it looks

ParticipantThe rumble strips are nasty and unnecessary. There is a stop sign at the intersection for people on the trail; if they want to emphasize that you should stop, they could make a bigger sign or put in two signs! Does anyone thing the rumble strips will prevent even a single accident? Cyclists better raise their voices now before they are everywhere: rumble strips first, then speed bumps. It is silly to think that only “elite cyclists” object to irritating obstructions on the trail.

ParticipantIt’s not “elite cyclists”, it’s “ELITE cyclists”
I completely agree that the strips are nasty – I can see how easy it would be for a runner to trip on them because they don’t look raised at all but they are about an inch high.
So, who installed them and who do we raise our voices to?

I guess VDOT should institute some traffic calming, or maybe a stop sign on that road.

I’ll inquire around and see if I can find out some more information.

ParticipantCan anyone share details on where these are specifically located? Photos of the installation would be great too.

Both sides of Cedar Ln on the W&OD about 15′ back from the intersection. Despite my cavalier “they aren’t a big deal” a guy next to me almost cratered on them yesterday- wet/icy they might actually be dangerous.

ParticipantThere’s also a set near park street. This section was recently re striped.

ParticipantThanks–both FABB and the Vienna BAC are looking into things and trying to get more information.
If anyone rolls past there on their afternoon commute, can you post a few pictures here?
