Space Shuttle Discovery

Did everyone get outside to see it this morning? The 747 and Discovery made a few loops over the downtown area. They also flew past Reagan National and National Harbor. All regular flights were suspended out of Reagan National while the shuttle circled around. Hains Point was supposed to be one of the prime viewing areas. I saw the shuttle from Arlington. Pretty good view of the Discovery. Pictures coming soon…

I grew up watching these from all around Florida – on a clear day you can see it from across the state. It’s bittersweet to see the sendoff.

I was lucky enough to have a conference down at National Harbor today, so I got to see the flyover while biking down M street, going across the 14th street bridge and riding along the MVT at gravelly point. It was great to see so many people out on bikes.

Nice ride from DC down to Nat Harbor, although I wasn’t expecting the crushed shell path at the end.

It was really cool to see hundreds of people all up on roof tops. It was like in Independence Day, just without the alien attack.
