    As I said here,

    http://bikearlingtonforum.com/showthread.php?5227-suggest-a-ride-to-overcome-north-brooklyn-envy

I needed a ride to overcome North Brooklyn envy, and also to overcome not having ridden since BTWD.

So. Here is what I did.

Rode the 1/4 mile from my house to the busstop, took the 3A to Rosslyn.

Over the Key Bridge. Sidewalk on M to 33rd, up 33rd to Q, over on Q to where the bike lanes begin, and on to 15th. Up the cycle track to the end. Would have continued up into Columbia Heights – took one look at the hill past Florida – hill climbing is not what today’s ride is about. So took W street to 9th. Veered past 9th on V street to see the funny pop up house there. Then back west on V to 15th. Down 15th again to P, for a bathroom break at Whole Foods (and a free sample, and a call home). Then 14th street up to T, over on T to 7th, down 7th to R, back west on R to 15th, and then down 15th to the White House. There was an anti-torture rally at Lafayette Park, which I observed (not sure if riding in parallel for a stretch counted as participating) then down 15th to Pennsylvania.

I had been planning on riding the Pa ave track to Capital Hill – forgot about the battle of the the BBQ’s. Decided to do that track another time, was unsure best way to get back to 15th street (by this point I had gone to 12th on the sidewalk – yeah I know its illegal here, but the circumstances on Pa were unusual – went down 12th to the Mall – as it happened Madison was closed to motor traffic – there was some skateboard thing going on at the American History Museum (plus the Folk Life Festival being set up) so that was a nice way west – I futzed around the Washington Monument and the Ellipse (salmoned on the Ellipse road – no one way signs and I got a bit confused) then back up 15th to R. Stopped for froyo at Connecticut and R, then further on R to Embassy Circle, to Q, to 34th, and back to Key Bridge (I got confused at 34th and M – the bike lane has you on the right, and you need to get left to cross M) then back to Rosslyn for the bus ride to Annandale.

Lovely day. Lovely bike infrastructure. Lovely critical mass of bikers (esp east of 16th street). Lovely architecture, and street life quite hip enough for me (though I DO need to do a Col Heights/Petworth ride, which will also get me back into hill training – not that Gtown is so inadequate in that regard)

    Soul restored.
