ParticipantI can tell how out of it riding this week because I been past this caboose every day and didn’t notice anything, other than to think on my Sunday ride that maybe we needed to get a group of volunteers together to work on this one. Someone, other than NSA, out there must be monitoring my inner thoughts.

I’d seen the other two getting love and wondered if this one was next. Interestingly this is being done by a different crew than worked on the other two.

It seems like they cabooses are sponsored (managed? cared for?) by different entities. I don’t know anything about them, but found a few different bits of information when googling
• The CabooseIn 1989, longtime Society member and railroad aficianado George Moore located a surplus Norfolk and Western caboose, arranged for it to be transported to Herndon, and coordinated with the Herndon Department of Public Works to install the section of track on which it sits. Located adjacent to the W&OD trail—formerly the W&OD railroad line—the caboose serves as a reminder of the town’s rail history. Although the caboose is now the property of the Town of Herndon the Society continues to monitor its condition and to fund the interior maintenance. Following his death in 2003, the caboose was dedicated in George’s memory. In 2008, the interior was restored and the windows were improved to make them water tight.
The one in Vienna seems to be cared for by the Optimist Club of Greater Vienna.

I kinda figured they’d be administered by different groups. Since the refurb was timed close together thought they might have gotten a package deal. Maybe it is a bunch of volunteers that are refurbing.
