First time this seminewbie had ridden all the way to Reston (from Gallows Rd, this time, on Sunday)

1 Rail to trails yes, but its not ALL flat. I mean there’s that hill at Buckthorn, for example.

2 Riding in the rain makes a big difference – only a few cyclists and runners, and some apparently serious walkers. I had bought a bell in Reston before my rainy ride back, and hardly got to use it

    3 Lots of butterflies

4 RTC makes a nice place to get to as a destination. You feel like you’ve arrived somewhere, and lots of cyclists around. The bike parking by brBurger was a bit tight though – I locked up on the other side of the square.

5 motorists tend to be polite at intersections – more so in Vienna than in Reston – or maybe that was just my luck that day

    6. I seem to like the Vienna Community Center as a rest stop

the original rails were pretty flat; the further west you go, the more vertical detours around expressways you’ll find.

Happy to hear that you enjoyed it and that the motorists were polite! Look forward to hearing about more adventures in the future. :D
