Participantinterfering with licensed frequencies is, and should be, a serious matter. the guy is a jerk and should get hit by the full fine. hopefully there will be a lot of publicity so people understand that they can get caught and that there is a penalty.

Well, sure. I mean, I guess, if you’re hung-up on being “reasonable.” I, however, am not so burdened. American patriots like this guy, the inventor of the Brompton, and Lawnchair Larry are what will ultimately solve our transportation crisis.
On another note, this guy made it two years using his jammer. How long do you think I would last trying to do this past both the Capitol and the White House before getting slide-tackled by a Crown Vic?

GuestIt’s all fun and games until you’re in an accident and need to call 911…

As former Secretary of Transportation Ray Lahood has said, the optimal place for your cell phone while driving is in your trunk – accessible in an emergency, but no temptation to even answer a call while driving. The danger of even hands free use being considerable. IIUC he was also interested in technologies that would disable phones inside the car, while the car is in motion. I don’t know if it ever got to the point of discussions with the FCC. Of course the growth of apps, some sponsored by local govts, for drivers to use (presumably) while the car is in motion, is a complication.

Senior Counsel, FCCAww, you’re going to make me be serious on the internet. Obviously this was terribly ill-considered on the part of this Florida man (not NY as I noted above). No one should ever interfere with the ability of the public to communicate, particularly given the potential need of someone in the vicinity to contact emergency services. I’m actually quite glad to hear that it’s possible to find and prosecute people who would endanger others this way.
But I ask you, if we can’t have a little chuckle over the terribly ill-considered things people in Florida get themselves arrested for doing, is the internet even worth having (also assume there are no cat videos)?

Yeah… You try dealing with my soon-to-be teenage daughter on a road trip if all cell phones are locked in the trunk.

I thought perhaps he was joking, but it was the sarcastic serious. Note to self, send all AT&T complaints to RC, jk.

Because every emergency situation involves the ability to get out of one’s car and open the trunk. And the dangers of passengers using cellphones is so great federal government intervention is needed.
Opinions like LaHood’s provide strong evidence that politicians’ reputations for idiocy are well deserved.
