ParticipantOne thing that affects my knees (other than saddle height/position) is how wide/narrow I pedal. I find that the closer together my knees are the less likely I’ll get pain (esp if I’m riding hard). I’m sure it varies from person to person. When I ride the folding bike for a while and then go back to a full size bike I’ll often hit my knees for awhile on the top tube (since on the folding bike the “top tube” is very low).

Yep, I need to make sure I’m not wobbling. Focusing on spinning smoothly and not mashing definitely helps.

ParticipantZippy trip home! I hit 21.8 mph on Ohio Drive, tried to crack 22 but couldn’t quite make it today.
Rested in Shirlington for a while. I didn’t do the MC hill, upon someone’s brilliant suggestion I took Valley to Preston instead. Longer, still tough for me, but a good level of tough. I think I managed to keep my cadence above 75 even when it got hard. This will be good and get me strong instead of destroying my knees.
I shall also mention that my tibialis anteriors are looking mighty fine today.

ParticipantI made it to Friday Coffee Club today! People were nice and said hello to me.
I am now on the Twitters as @KelOnWheelsVA so as to keep up with #fridaycoffeeclub.
Great ride in, it was a beautiful morning. I felt like I could do 10 more miles. Riding on the plaza behind the White House is ridiculous fun, I was riding in circles and going “wheeeeeeee” to myself
Encountered a clueless SUV at a stop sign – I had the lane, stopped at the sign, he stopped behind me, and I signaled that I was going to turn left, which apparently in SUV-speak means “Hey, why don’t you just pull around me and go first because that’s TOTALLY how traffic works with the second person in line going first and all,” but fortunately I was kind of expecting him to do that, so I didn’t start my turn and get run over.
I might do a Hains Point loop on the way home, I’ll see how I feel when I get there

Doh, I skipped #fridaycoffeeclub today…it’s hard because I have about 45 minutes of riding from Swing’s to work, so I get into work super late if I go. But I’ll probably go next week, assuming nothing comes up.

D’oh! Yeah, I left about 8:15 – was a few minutes late to work
Fortunately they think it’s really cool that I’m riding and don’t mind if I roll in a little bit late every so often.

They think it’s “cool”? I need to work there. Where I work, they just think I’m nuts.

Hmmm…I’m taking most of next week off, maybe I should make the trek to Swing’s on Friday since that’s not going to happen on a work day.

ParticipantI recommend their chocolate croissants!
I didn’t make it today as I’m actually busy at work right now / was doing Hains Pt laps, and I had an upset stomach yesterday so I didn’t want delicious strong coffee and buttery pastry to start off my day.

ParticipantGood ride in this morning, not too many people out. It rained just enough to be refreshing.
Somehow I managed to get my second fastest time overall but wasn’t fast in any one segment.
The asthma was strong today. The legs were stronger. Take that, asthma!
I ate a lot of breakfast, which I regretted about halfway through the ride. Then I got to work and ate more breakfast.
Now I want pancakes.
Later I will go pick up a Dutch oven from someone I met at Friday Coffee Club that had one to give away. Then I can make coq au vin!
Except I need some coq. And some vin.Now I am sad because if I want to go to Friday Coffee Club again this week I can’t ride in again until Friday. That being the day on which Friday Coffee Club is. I guess that’s why it’s called Friday Coffee Club. Clever, that.
I did 42.4 miles last week so I can add 4.2 miles this week, or approximately 1.25 Hains Points.

ParticipantI noticed anytime it says rain out, the bike room at work is empty. I love riding in the rain, keeps the tourists away, the cars can see my lights better, and it keeps me cool. Plus there is some sort of wierd satisfaction that goes with biking in the rain. I was pissed on friday that it stopped raining before I left.

ParticipantSome rain, good. Pouring rain, bad.
Somehow I missed all of the rain. I’m never early on Mondays, but I was out way early this morning. I guess the short ride up WO&D yesterday had me in the biking mood.

Damnit, I missed the rain today too. Bummed.

ParticipantNot on bike today. Grumpy. :p
I think my metabolism’s finally ticked over into workout mode. Yesterday I was STARVING all day even after two breakfasts & lunch. Today’s the first day I’ve really noticed feeling sluggish & blah since I didn’t get a ride this morning. Fortunately I can get a decent walk in from the Metro and that helped. Gonna have to start running on off-bike days. (THE HORROR!)
