RESTONTODC

KelOnWheels, it was good to see you.
I’m wondering how it feels to mount a rocket on a bike.
Kathy, thank you for the happy hour. We’re not strangers on the trail anymore.

He was probably on his fixie too!

And I did it in the second chainring because my bike refused to shift to the small one!
Better than when you try to shift to a small(er) chainring because you’re struggling and realize you were already in it…

True dat. Otherwise I’d need a chainring the size of a quarter with about 4 teeth on it…

Yeah, now they’ve moved the thunderstorms to Wednesday which could ruin getting some riding in before the PPTC Tour de France Happy Hour.
Well now they’ve moved them to Thursday. If this keeps up maybe they’ll just get bored and decide not to come at all.

And then there is when you’re going up a steep hill and your Garmin autopauses because it thinks you’re going too slow.

ParticipantWell, I once again didn’t get up early enough to make it to Friday Coffee Club but I was back on the bike today! Rawr!
Great ride in. Got my new bike computer on so I could keep an eye on my cadence and not push too hard for my knees. Had fun with that
Trail seemed awfully empty, am I going to get killed by a thunderstorm on the way home?
Didn’t get my fenders on yet, so now I’ve got nice mud splotches all over the back of my shiny new jersey
Oh well. Forgot to put tape on my seatbag and snagged the new bike shorts too.
New helmet felt nice and airy! (Do not be alarmed. My head does not resemble a toadstool today.)

No fair going incognito in a new helmet, but I may have passed you — in a wretched car. Had to drive in today. It was as bad as I remembered even though there wasn’t any traffic.

Ewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww. It’s funny how fast you get out of the habit of driving, ennit? It’s all weird.
Don’t worry, I still have a giant orange bag strapped to my back, I’m not too hard to spot.

ParticipantI love having cadence. That was one of my first big steps in getting “better” with my cycling. It made me realise I used to ride around 50-60 a lot.
I saw two other commuters with orange (or maybe just worn out/dirty yellow) bags on their back this morning, going down the Custis. One of them was doing a ridiculous speed bombing downhill around blind corners and dodging between peds even though he had a bell on each end of his drops. By Georgetown he was behind me but then swiftly overtook me on M St. by dodging between a taxi and a bus in front of me. C’mon, Darwin award! 😡
I’m a bit concerned about the weather on the way home today too, so I drove part of my commute.

It made my knees happy for sure! I had to slow down a couple of times, apparently I think I’m gonna spin like Lance when I grow up
(Although I’m pretty sure he actually produces power and not just spinniness. Oh well, one step at a time.)
If it looks bad this afternoon I’ll just hang out in DC and Metro home with the bike after rush hour.

I’d always rather be spinning at 90+ than mashing at <80! My knees have thanked me many times.
A good option. For me, I don’t like hanging around in DC close to work any longer than I have to (and I don’t want to miss dinner – with my young kids we tend to eat around 5:30pm). I think there might be window around 4pm… it’s definitely going to be a Radar/Weather Wall watching afternoon.

ParticipantI managed to stay between 80-90 most of the time – I was pretty pleased with myself! I took a few coasting breaks
July 21, 2012 at 1:07 am #946496KelOnWheels
ParticipantTried to stay above 90 on the way home – that’s some different muscles there!
Felt good. I even hit 20 mph on a nice flat stretch! (so why will I not go downhill faster than 15? Chickeny me.)

Are you still riding the MTB?

Yep! What does not kill me makes me stronger. Except for that hill. That might just blow my knees out. :p
