Perfect morning if you were heading south/east on MVT. Imperfect if you were heading north/west, particularly with a bag. The temp was great, but the wind was killer. Plus only 2 called passes of 7 today.
Yeah, it got quite windy between the airport and the 14th St Bridge. I tried to make myself all aero. On the MTB. With the messenger bag.

ParticipantYes, the wind! It was like ninja wind though, because it didn’t feel that windy while I was riding (northbound MVT), but I felt like I was dragging an anchor.

ParticipantShould’ve gone Southbound, that was a nice +5MPH boost.

I’m hoping it’s still there on the way home. Realistically there will be a magical polar reverse and I will be pedalling with the Twowheel’s accurate description of dragging the anchor, ha.
I should quit complaining given I’m sure it will be windy and cold in five months from now. Got to soak up the no gear weather while I can.

Yes, I was five minutes slower today with the headwind. And 0 of 7 roadies passing me called it. But it was still 100x better than the drive portion of my commute, which was hideous.

This morning I got passed with no call going down the S curve o’ death by a guy on a fixie (or perhaps SS) who I then overtook shortly afterwards (after we both passed a few slower cyclists – he called none of his passes). On the way down the Rosslyn hill, I heard him behind me and then saw him speed off to the right onto the road and salmon down the rest of the way. A very smart guy.

Of course, if I was going southbound I wouldn’t be heading for work, and this is the commuter sub-forum….
But it is a lovely thought.June 27, 2012 at 1:06 am #944225KelOnWheels
ParticipantIt was so nice on the way home I decided to go on the VeloCity Bicycle Co-op Ladies’ Night group ride! Sadly I did not decide to eat anything beforehand. Bonked big time on the way home. :p Oh well, live & learn! (Stupid hills.)

ParticipantNo group ride for me, but I did take my little one on a walk through Cherrydale with a friend and her little one. We stopped to let the kids watch the bikes coming back from the Tuesday night Freshbikes ride (and see the aftermath of a minor car accident, which made the hoards of bikes coming down Quincy interesting). Almost may me feel like I was on a group ride.

ParticipantWho’s passing me this morning before the downhill S curve wearing the Bike Arlington jersey and riding a red Giant bike?

I was out running last night and saw that aftermath of the car accident. It was more than just minor! How did the cyclists manage to get around things?

With the same level of care and concern usually taken on that ride. Seriously though a little bird told me later groups were waved by thanks to the cops on scene, but when I got there we just slowly drifted by as best we could. There was only one officer there and she was talking to the parties involved, not doing traffic control.

ParticipantWoohoo! I am the queen of my commute! Rarr! (Well I would be, if I’d entered a segment for it.) (OK, NOW I’m the queen!)

That was nice of Strava to deduct the time when I had to stop and chase my taillight down the MVT
Pretty sure I must have burned at least 4 million calories though. Strava’s way off!

ParticipantOK, looking at the speed graph on Strava is hilarious. Apparently I am in invisible stop & go traffic the whole way!

Isn’t analyzing data fun? Now think about throwing in heart rate, cadence, and power too!
