I was planning on taking the Confident City Cycling class again but I was a little too Confident in thinking it would be in the same location as last time and didn’t actually check that before heading out, so I didn’t get there in time.
I was in that class! We started out at the WABA headquarters. I guess they were in a hurry so we quickly went off to the playground on 18th Street. I stayed for the full day marathon session so I can take the LCI course at the end of the month. We were in the middle of our outdoor evaluation when the storm hit. I was having visions of the Wizard of Oz where Dorothy is looking out her window during the tornado and sees Mrs. Gulch (sp?) going by on her bike. I was so cold and wet I called my husband to come get me rather than ride the 16 miles home. So kudos to you for making it through that.

This. A thousand times this. Sunday as well, especially when you’re used to the 6am MVT commute.
I was particularly amused by the beefy young gentleman running 4MRT with earbuds in, who appeared to be moving up to pass the nice young lady politely running on the right of the trail, but was then apparently so taken with her graceful running form that he had to stay right next to her and block up the entire trail since there were more runners coming the other direction.
I rang my bell to indicate that I was behind him and would like to perhaps eventually pass sometime that day if it would not inconvenience him too much, but the young gentleman apparently was unable to hear me over his music, his overly loud and terribly inefficient footstrikes, and, no doubt, the fervent beating of his lovestruck heart.
As there was another cyclist behind me by this time, I rang my bell a few more times, still with no effect. (The young lady glanced back and knew we were there, but as she was already all the way to the right and couldn’t shake Beefy Boy, her options were limited.)
I ended up practicing my slow riding directly behind the aforementioned young gentleman’s left shoulder, ringing my bell continuously and peacefully calling out speculative inquiries such as “YOU CAN’T HEAR ME, CAN YOU?” and “I’D LIKE TO BE PASSING ON YOUR LEFT, DO YOU THINK MAYBE THAT COULD HAPPEN?” until I could get around him to pass. I’m pretty sure I made the cyclist behind me laugh, anyway.

ParticipantMVT on Saturday is craaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaazy!
It’s not much better on a weekday. Ah, those noobie joggers are just so cute. When is the first freeze that causes them all to migrate south?

Dude. You should see how much I’ve eaten since I ran a measly eight miles yesterday morning. I seem to be trying to recovery eat for the entire Nation’s Tri. The bikegry/rungry is STRONG in this one.

I always thought they hibernate.

ParticipantWhat happened this morning at the bottom of the 14th St Bridge down by sidewalk for Jefferson? I saw several cyclists standing around a guy who was sitting upright against the concrete barrier. It looked like he had a bloody nose or something. I almost stopped, but I figured enough folks had already stopped so there wouldn’t be much value-added in me stopping. I’m guessing it was around 8:15/20ish or so that I rode by.

It rides from you house. It is solo, unless you meet up with someone. Swing’s coffee house, 17th and G NW, Fridays 7:30 to 9:00 or so.

ParticipantThis morning was FABULOUS! Who got to ride today? We are lucky people.
I thought about wearing a jacket, but then I was glad I didn’t.
I need to figure out what to wear for what temperatures – I know it for running, but cycling will be different I imagine.Someone on a white road bike hung behind me by the airport for a moment & when they passed said “You’re getting that little bike going pretty fast!” so that made me happy.
YOU ALL WILL BE HAPPY TO KNOW: Apparently the walkway on the 14th St Bridge is now so wide that no one needs to call their passes. Or maybe everyone was looking at the flags. I was, so I was content to hang out and go slowly.
I need sunglasses that are half sun and half clear so I have an eye for each thing. It’s hard to see under the underpasses.
I should probably clean & lube the bike the night before (I was going to, but I fell asleep). I keep finding bike grease on me. My front derailleur needs adjusting. Perhaps I will watch the Park Tools video tonight.
BIKES ROCK!

No matter what I put into that calculator, I never get khaki. Something must be wrong.
