Maybe NPS is reading this thread (wishful thinking or reality?) because the sidewalk was open this morning down by the Jefferson. It looked great too. So if they’re reading, thanks for ending the detours (hopefully permanently).

    Hurray!

I saw that as I rode from Hains Point this morning. Lots of people had gone out of their way to avoid it only to find it open.

ZOMG it was SO NICE out this morning.

I couldn’t even make myself go fast (even though I was running late). I was behind a couple of slow people (well, slower people. I am a slow people.) on the way in and I just wheelsucked them for a while. Very relaxing.

Cars gotta stop making U-turns through the Penn Ave cycletrack, yo.

I finally figured out the cause of the bizarre sensation I’ve been having in my right leg since I crashed!

I’ve been having the very odd sensation that my right pedal is going to hit the ground at the bottom of my stroke, as if somehow my right crank & leg were suddenly longer. It’s been making riding rather unnerving at times.

I finally figured out that what I’m actually feeling is some residual looseness/weakness in my right hip (which could be kinda cool if I knocked all the tightness out of my hip flexor :p ) that’s making it feel like my whole leg is dropping farther than the left.

    Weird!

Gonna stick to slow easy riding – I’ve been pushing my running build this week anyway.

I shall now attempt to propel myself up the giant hill with calm Zen-like thoughts.

Eminva, did we pass each other on the W&OD bridge over 495, you heading westbound, this evening just after 7pm?

Mark Blacknell, did we pass each other on the W&OD bridge over I66, you also heading westbound, just a few minutes later?

Or am I imagining seeing forum members everywhere?

To your first question, yes, probably so! These opposite direction sightings are hard when riding as fast as all of us go. ;)

To your second question, if he was right behind me, he probably would have caught me at Gallows Road because I had to wait for the light for a while. But I will let him answer that.

Probably not–Blacknell was coming over the 14th Street Bridge from “Hains Point Until You Cry” intervals with me at about that time.

Awesome morning! I sang “Put a Little Birdhouse in Your Soul” to myself up the MVT. I saw some smiling cyclists riding along and smiling. Possibly at my bad singing.

Friday Coffee Club! I got to meet americancyclo and check out Tales From the Sharrows guy’s new blue Brompton, which he demonstrated the awesome foldiness of. We were all amazed. I will have to post the picture I took of us all being amazed later. Also Lisa demonstrated the foldiness of her Dahon. There was much foldiness today at the Club of the Coffee.

I tried drinking an Americano because I am allergic to dairy but I said “America-NO” to that and had to put some milk in it. :p

No one tried to run me over in the Penn Ave cycletrack today, so that was refreshing. People on bikes that do not look like they would go fast do in fact go fast in the cycletrack. I do not go so fast. Maybe those fast people have not gone 10 miles before they do their going-fast thing. Maybe they are just fast and have those new-fangled fast-twitch muscles you hear about.

Now I am drinking more coffee and eating bacon.

The Americano is the most pointless coffee drink ever devised. America-NO is just what you should say to it.

I was actually riding down to HP from work to do a few loops because I had read so many illustrious forum members would be in attendance. I had wanted to be there around 6:30. As with many of my plans, it was a total travesty starting with not being able to leave work on time, being waylaid by the chatty co-worker in the locker room (who of course wanted to talk about Lance because I was wearing riding clothes), forgetting to take the turn from W&OD onto Custis and then having to figure out if it was faster to backtrack or just stay on W&OD (I backtracked), getting lost in downtown Arlington, and finally ending with me changing a flat in the dark on Memorial Bridge because I had forgotten I was riding on a patched tube. Hope you guys had a good ride :)

Note to self: Slime “Skabs” tube patches are NOT a permanent solution. Remember to change that tube next time.

Dammit, passed KelOnWheels again (inbound, on the sidewalk at the Jefferson) and didn’t realize it until it was too late. The heat was melting my brain.

    Mine too. Ugh. :)

I got a MAGICAL whiff of steamy Four Mile Run goodness on the way home and had to stop for a cold ginger ale to recover. Bleargh!

Where was everyone this morning? Seemed like 80% of folks took an extra long weekend. I wasn’t passed on MVT at all and only passed two others. And during the peak time. I’m envious of all those with the extra day off.

Must have been a lull in the traffic. Seemed like the usual number of riders for me on the MVT from the Airport to Rosslyn (about 7:45 to 8:05).

There were only a few cyclists out early (I was crossing the 14th St Bridge before 0600) but most were in need of lights. Runners as well!

I don’t know which marketing guy thought that a quarter sized piece of reflective stuff on the back of a technical tee qualified as “enough” but I’d like to invite them for a pre dawn ridealong.
