Not on bike today. Grumpy. :p
I think my metabolism’s finally ticked over into workout mode. Yesterday I was STARVING all day even after two breakfasts & lunch. (THE HORROR!)
You skipped Elevensies!

That’s just one sport away from a triathlon. Better talk to Ann!

They were in there somewhere, don’t worry. I may have accidentally eaten a couple of Hobbits too.

If I run WITH the bike, then it’s cyclocross!

ParticipantMan, what a great day!
Didn’t see anybody out on the trail this morning except for a few runners (well, except for the one guy on a road bike who came up behind me at the 14th St Bridge approach – I apologize for my completely lame left turn signaling that was probably so lame that you couldn’t even see it and promise to be a better signaller in future. You did not yell at me or slam on your brakes so I think you guessed where I was headed.) Brain and legs were a bit sleepy.
My waterproof bag is waterproof!
My fenders probably are too but since I haven’t installed them yet they didn’t really do much good. I’m sure the table they are sitting on at home is nice and dry. I got mud in my teeth. My brake pads appear to be water soluble and solubed all over my rims.
Friday Coffee Club was full of folks! Dirt appeared with tales of far off lands and a kick-ass new jersey. Somebody whose name I should remember had a new Surly Disc Trucker. It was purty.
Started POURING just as I was getting ready to leave so I got to test out my rain jacket that’s been waiting patiently in my bag all summer. It appears to repel rain as advertised on the tin. The rain was handy, it washed all the mud off. Free shower!August 10, 2012 at 2:24 pm #948332GuyContinental

I weenied out myself… Just take note that that goo on your wheel is likely mud, grit and tiny bits of aluminum- a fantastic grinding paste that will eagerly grind your wheels to nothingness. Take a sec to wipe off your pads & braking surface with a rag. Once home I’d also clean and re-lube my drive train, grease my pedals and lube my cables. Water is fun on a bike but pretty destructive…

I liked that too. Thanks. The jersey is made by a South African company called Enjoy. I picked up a bunch of their stuff when I was there. It is a cool, local company that puts out some nice clothing. Lots of materials from Asia, Poland and Romania, but the sublimation, design and sewing are done in South Africa.

ParticipantThings I learned this morning: my clip on rear fender does not keep the mud off my back, despite being aided by a rack and a bag. My clip on front fender sprays water nicely on to my shoes when pedaling through puddles. My civilian rain jacket is not water proof. My eyeglasses make crappy goggles. Pressing “start” in the Strava app on my phone doesn’t necessarily work if my fingers are wet (whaddaya mean I didn’t ride to work this morning?!). But, most of all, I like riding in the rain in the morning just as much as I like it in the afternoon.

One would think they’d be able to find a South African revolutionary to serve as an icon rather than an Argentine.
