There was some flooding along the MVT early this morning. No parts of the trail were any more than a few inches underwater, and later in the morning, the flooding luckily subsided.

In Old Town Alexandria, King Street was closed off at the east end of its intersection with Union Street (SW corner of the Torpedo Factory) – (looking east from the intersection)

Also some flooding south of Belle Haven Park, which did not please many a jogger/walker.

I noticed some flooding creeping up between OT and Belle Haven Park yesterday in the early evening. I didn’t ride today due to work, but I noticed part of the MVT was flooded just north of the marina with probably an inch or two. Hope it’s gone by tomorrow.

I rolled around HP this morning at about 8:45 and there’s still about 6-8″ of standing water covering the road at the end of the island (just by the playground and lot where the tent was set up for the HP100.
Looked like this when I rode through it: http://instagram.com/p/Wt9IbbtopP/

Also, really stupid riding through it when I know my shoes wont dry before the ride home and i was going to wear those socks today.

The tidal flooding of the 4MRT under the bridges at the east end was starting to recede as I rode through about 7:45 am. Still had about 15 feet of water, about 4 inches deep plus all its assorted debris. As I did my Hains Point lap about 1 pm yesterday I was wondering what all the crap was until I remembered there had been a high tide warning.

Stuff the shoes with newspaper or paper towels. Might need to change them out a few times, but that should get your shoes pretty dry.

Newspapers + use a fan if you have one. That usually works for me to dry out shoes in time for my return commute.

Hand- or hairdyers will dry your socks. There are probably some in the restroom in your office. If not, and if you have a female coworker who works out at lunch, you could ask if she has a hairdryer.

    Good luck.

I rode HP and FMR about 6:15 this morning and although there was some debris on the trail (and HP), the path had no standing water. I doubt Bicycling Mag has ever suggested checking the tide tables before a ride!

2:30 was enough to bring 8″ of water up onto the road at HP – I should have checked the tide tables!

Yeah – that was the first thing I did when I arrived. Fortunately, we should see 50s this afternoon for the ride home, so even if shoes are still kind of wet it wont be too bad.

Wet shoes are the worst. Also, if you use a hairdryer, don’t do it in an office or small space where other people might walk through….smells terrible (or maybe that’s just MY shoes that do that).
