I may end up being a slacker by default, even though I didn’t participate in any previous Freezing Saddles.

Y’see, I coach alpine ski racing every. single. weekend. between December 12 and March 13. So my ability to participate in any weekend rides is, well, not great.

I registered (because that’s what folks do, right?), but I know full well I’m best with a slacker group than not.

    Thanks for your consideration!

It’s really just about participation, having a fun time, and meeting other crazy all year cycling fools. Anyone should feel welcome to join in the fun as long as they are willing to try, that’s all. It really doesn’t matter if you can ride much on the weekends.

But should you feel so inclined to get some killer points in while you teach folks how to ski, well here you go. As fast as you are you could probably be there in 4 hours.

    Reasons:
    – Newbies cannot be slackers
    – Freezing Saddles is 80 days long this year. If you ride even 40 of those, you will be an asset to your team.
    – You will have loads of fun even though you may miss some weekend rides
    – Your skiing season ends prior to the FSLNHPP

And what’s going to stop a newbie from just signing up for the FS16 Strava club and not registering for FS16?

Whoever sets up the Strava club can approve memberships. This is how team captains avoid having random people not on the team join up.

The one difference is that team captains have a roster of people who are supposed to be on the team. By popular vote, slackers were not permitted to register this year, but were told to wait until January and get sign-up instructions then. So I’m assuming there will have to be a thread where people ask to be slackers and give their Strava numbers. It would be easy enough to check whether those people are veterans. (We have archived versions of leaderboards from prior years.)

I let SteveO be an admin. :) A better question might be how to stop him from kicking off veteran slackers.

More seriously, if we actually care about it that much, it would not be that big a deal to compare the list of registrants and strava members and kick people off the strava team. It is open to the public right now because I am too lazy to want to individually accept all 100+ people signing up, but it can be changed to invite-only once registration is over with.

I don’t want to give the false impression that I actually care.
