In the comments, the dog owner says that she was walking on the trail with her 80-lb pitbull. The trail was icy so she walked onto the grass. The hole opened up and the dog fell in. He was dangling on the leash. She managed to help the dog climb back out of the sinkhole.

Man! The story was going so well until that last part.
