ParticipantBecause pointless prizes are fun, why don’t you offer a pointless prize for whomever is “it” at the end of BAFS

That wouldn’t work, because whoever gets the tag towards the end can just sit on it and not post a new picture. Or they could post one that is so obscure that no one else will get it. And you can’t do the opposite (booby prize for whoever has it at the end), because then people will just choose to not play rather than risk getting the booby prize.
Also, I was thinking this game would be open to everyone on the forum, not just FS participants. So a newbie can join right in, or a long-time lurker might find this game a fun way to get involved.
So it’s even more pointless than pointless–there isn’t even a way to give a prize, not even a pointless prize. Just like tag.

ParticipantAh, but here’s the trick: the prize doesn’t go to the person left holding the bag at the end. It goes to the person 11 from the end. Or the one who was in the middle. Or something like that. Camping out on being “it” won’t work, overthinking things won’t either, but playing the game will.

ParticipantOr the person most often it (number of possessions). Or most its per mile.

ParticipantHere I was thinking this was going to be like literal flyby strava type tag, you’re it. I’m thinking, this could be really interesting.
Still sounds fun and I would be in. I will find a photo of something obscure that will take others a while to replicate if I’m able to become it.

Your idea of ‘tag’ might be cool too, as a variant of the ‘one eighth sighting’ thread. You could tag someone you see on your ride, then they have to tag the next forum member they see on their ride.

ParticipantPrize or no prize, having people “camp” as “it” is no fun. You could easily have the rule that if some becomes “it”, they have to post a new pic within [24] hours, or the original “it” is up for grabs again.

I’ll take the first photo once we have 10 pages of comments arguing about the rules.
As long as you move the arguing over to the Team-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named thread, I’m okay with this.

The game in Chicago has a long list of rules, which we can draw from and modify for our own game. Something like a time limit is a good idea.
There were a lot of likes on the original post, so it seems this is a popular concept; thanks. As mentioned, although this is in the FS thread, the game will be open to all Forum members.
I’d rather it not distract from flags and other FS side bets, so I think I will start this game on March 20. After all, we all will need something to do when Freezing Saddles ends.

ParticipantDon’t despair, Forumites, as promised I bring you DC Bike Forum Bicycle Tag (#bikeforumbicycletag) to put meaning back in our lives now that the end of Freezing Saddles has taken it all away.
It’s a simple game. Just like playground tag, there are no winners or losers and the game can go on forever. It’s all about the playing of the game.
Here’s how it works. I’ll be “it” to start
Player It: Posts a picture in a context (e.g., “My bike in front of a coffee shop”)
Player B: Posts a freshly taken photo (saved photos not allowed) of his or her bike in the same context: “My bike in front of a coffee shop.”
Player B is now it.
Player B posts a picture in a new context: “My bike in a graveyard.”
And the game continues. Pretty simple.See next post for the more detailed rules.

ParticipantThis is a community game, and these are community rules. We can adjust them as needed to keep the game fun and working. We’ll use the usual process: 10 pages of back and forth comments that stray far from the topic and then eventually settle on something or other. Maybe.
– Anyone on the bike forum may play.
– Your bike in a context cannot be a specific place, but must be replicable somewhere else: Examples:
BAD: Bike by the Washington Monument
GOOD: Bike by a monolith
GOOD: Bike by something associated with George Washington
– If your context is too obscure or too hard, the Forum may vote. 3 dislikes and you have to post a new context (either a new photo or the same photo redefined, as in the example above).– If there are multiple replies to a photo, the first one posted is “it.”
– If you are “it” and fail to post a new photo within 48 hours, the game reverts to the previous photo and is open game again. If multiple replies were already posted, then next one in line becomes “it.”– Use newly taken photos only. Just like our other games, this is on the honor system. The point of the game is to go out and ride your bike.
– Some replies may be in a gray area. For instance:
Post: “Bike by a bank”
Reply – picture of bike by the Potomac River: “Bike by a (river)bank”
The person who was “it” may veto the photo bying it. The original photo then becomes fair game again, and anyone may respond. The Forum can overturn a veto, however, by bestowing 3 more likes than dislikes. Okay, let’s get going. I am starting a new thread to start the game.

When the person who is currently “it” likes your post, are you then “it” or do have to wait to be declared “it”?
March 22, 2015 at 8:00 pm #1026486Steve O
ParticipantAs soon as you post your picture, you are it. No need to wait for anything.
An exception might occur if your picture is questionable in some way. Yours is not, so you may go ahead and post your new picture at any time. Even if it were, you would be it until it gets rescinded by a veto. I just liked your photo because, well, I liked it.
