Great points… I mean really, how hard is it to slow down and stop for a couple of seconds to let someone else go?? People just don’t think.

I saw this on the tv last night, so at least in parts of DC they’ll be going after people who do not stop when people are in cross walks like Accord guy.

Here is a mom teaching her child the beauty of an early morning ride and she learns another lesson too: some drivers simply can’t be bothered to slow up – or actually follow the law and stop for people in a crosswalk. So every single time you hit the bike, you take risk of losing your life by a careless or, as in this case, an arrogant driver who just does not care. Yes, they are they exception, but there remain far, far too many of them.

I’d say the lesson is that you can’t trust drivers to do what you want them to. And thats a good lesson to learn. Don’t assume drivers will stop just because you’re in a crosswalk, have right of way, whatever. Hope for the best, prepare for the worst.

And yeah, people need to yield to folks in crosswalks. Though my big problem is people making rights on red at full speed without checking if people are crossing. :/

Perhaps speed bumps before crosswalks on streets over xx speed limit would greatly help matters.
