ParticipantI know there are some beasts on this forum that routinely make their commute at 15 mph or more, but I think the 11-13 mph range is quite good, @lordofthemark, and not just because that’s about where I average. I have lately been settled in at 12-13 mph, and I feel like I’m nowhere near the slowest guy out there. Keep in mind also that cellphone-recorded rides may yield a slower time than more dedicated GPS devices: many devices cut out anything lower than a certain speed, because creeping along isn’t indicative of an overall effort. Just having that kind of functionality could “boost” your speed closer to some others on Strava.

Actually installing racks and fenders is usually a pain in the butt, since even on the “easy” ones, it almost always requires bending and/or trimming stays and other “hacks” to get them right distance from the tire, rattle-free, etc.
Seriously. Just ask @hozn what he thinks of my rear fender stays. Actually—don’t ask him. :p

The proliferating coffee clubs do help!
Can help for both getting on bike AND speed. I recommend starting late for coffee club, like me today. That can help.

Speed –
Being late for coffee club can help with that. Just get up late.

But you commute on the Custis, right? I find that harder and slower than my route on 4MRT/MVT.
Other goals – to ride some routes I have not ridden. The last few months I have checked some boxes – ridden the entire length of the W&OD, ridden the Arlington Loop counterclockwise, ridden the “DC loop” IE CCT/MBT. Ridden the ART to Bennning Road. Ridden across the Wilson Bridge to NH.
Goals include riding Beach Drive (when it’s fixed) riding the entire lenght of the expanded ART (and maybe some trails in PG beyond), riding the entire southern half of the GCCCT. Test riding home to A Baked Joint to work, in preparation for doing FCC one day.
