I went to the unveiling of the bike room at the Wiehle Ave. Silver Line Metro stop this morning. There were about 50-60 cyclists who showed up – maybe more. It was also a community day for people (yes, even non-cyclists!) to visit the station. They had booths set up, including FABB, Women on Bikes, Green Lizard and others.

The bike room is very spacious, with room for at least 200 bikes. There’s also a repair area with two of those vertical Fix-It stands. The only thing lacking I noted, was that there is no water. No fountain or anyplace to fill your bottle. Also, the ramped hallway to the bike room is narrower than it might be. Fine for regular bikes, but might be a tough squeeze for a couple of larger bikes to pass each other going in opposite directions–even on foot, which is probably the recommended method.

That said, this bike parking facility is a tremendous asset for the station. Kudos to whoever advocated for it.

    Here are some crappy photos:

Bike room membership costs $75 for the first year, and $60/Year afterward. It looks like you have to be a member to use the Fix-it stand. I wish it was outside.
