Weather.gov is a good source too. It’s where most of the weather data and model runs come from to begin with, and the source of the severe weather statements as well.
Speaking of severe weather – we’re in a slight risk for severe today. Lately there have been lots of severe storms in the region but all seem to completely die out, or move away from DC. It’s like the beltway has a force field around it. Are we Under the Dome? The lack of storms has been good for commuters, but I don’t think the good luck will last forever so keep your an eye on the radar this afternoon.

ParticipantI’m a big fan of http://www.imapweather.com for its radar images and loop of the past 45 minutes, which makes it easy to see where the storms are heading. Capital Weather Gang actually embeds imap’s radar loop into their blog postings and on the CWG “Weather Wall” – http://voices.washingtonpost.com/capitalweathergang/2008/08/weather_gang_weather_wall.html

ParticipantAnd I was supposed to Pedicab tonight.
I like weatherbug for my phone, and weather.gov/nbc4 radar on my computer.
they seem to update pretty quickly.

ParticipantTornado watch until 10pm. I’d guess that they’ll cancel it for us by 7pm, but the threat for strong pop-up storms is really high right now, from 0 to severe in 30 minutes. Way better than a 1980s Dominoes pizza.

Sometimes I check weather.com and they’re right. I’m on the wtop.com breaking news list and emergency alerts from Fairfax county, which give me severe weather forecasts. But the one service that has not failed is the sensation of touch. It doesn’t predict the future, but when used outside under the right conditions it has never failed to accurately tell me about the current weather conditions where I am.

ParticipantTornado watch has been called off for the D.C. area, although it remains in place for some Maryland counties: Anne Arundel, Howard, Calvert and St. Mary’s.

ParticipantRumble, rumble rumble, flash, flash, flash. And I can see the sun breaking through to the west of Rosslyn.

ParticipantWell that was fast.
I certainly wouldn’t want to be caught out in it, but these things are just hauling through and leaving clear skies behind them.
30 minutes and it’ll be dry enough not to spray my back, I bet.

ParticipantPoop. There’s another band of storms on the way in.

ParticipantI heard hail hitting the windows for a couple minutes. The rain was coming down very hard for a while but now it’s (mostly) clear. A light rain just started up again.
