Did you report it already? Trails@arlingtonva.us
Yep, reported it before I posted here. See, you can teach an old dog new tricks.

ParticipantA driver performed some interesting auto-batics this morning leaving the GWMP and crossing the MVT just south of Trollheim. Police and a flatbed truck were figuring out how to extact it from the bushes when I went by just after 7:00. You may wish to seek an alternate route this morning.

I noticed the tire tracks on the grass when I went by around 8:00. All was clear by then.

And it was all cleared out this morning (likely during the day yesterday given how wet the cut ends looked).

I was wondering what had happened at that spot. I went by about the same time as sjclaeys and saw vegetation on the trail that looked like it was dragged around and then the tire tracks. I was surprised at how little the grass was messed up if they had recovered the car (other option, I suppose, was that it was in the river). Thank you very much for posting.

ParticipantClearly there was a car crash at the intersection of Fairfax Drive and Randolph Road in Ballston. Northern part of the intersection so in the west bound bike lane. Glass and other sharp items there and it continues west on Fairfax drive a bit. Be careful.
I will be reporting this shortly – need to figure out if VDOT (I think it is) or Arlington County first.
Update: Reported to VDOT.

This is at least the fourth time in that general area. Twice the car took out part of Trollheim.

Yep, gone this morning. I got an email response back from the county that it was removed yesterday afternoon.

ParticipantThe gates by the golf course were closed this morning at 8:45. The roadway was flooded several hundred feet before the bus parking area and down to the point, at least five to six inches deep in some areas. That was at high tide.

Indeed. Perhaps an extension of the “stone” wall separating the GWMP from the MVT and TR Island parking lot is in order to keep the unruly drivers contained.

So, today I received an e-mail from VDOT saying they completed the job. Um, not sure what they did since it is two weeks later and the natural process of decreasing the size of the debris and moving it elsewhere had already taken place, which I have noticed with each ride past the area. So, I am not overly happy about this response. Perhaps, since it was at a cross street with an Arlington road I should have told them about it?
