ParticipantI’m confused where the other one that leads off those photos uphill is going. Are we going to climb up this and then back down onto that service road? Brings me back to my comment elsewhere about just riding through the airport. One thing for mulch that’s relatively level/low hill, but another thing for literally an uphill stretch of it. And it’s supposed to rain horribly bad this weekend so I bet half that mulch is gone by Monday.

Police have now completely blocked off the WOD trail east of the Sherve Road crossing (mile 7.5), including the gravel path, due to a snapped power pole at the Poplar Heigths tennis courts. VA Dominion Power repair crews are on site. Alternative route is to find your way over to West Street, between the Citizen Bridge at Rt 7 and Allan Street.

ParticipantSome rain tomorrow expected, but torrential rains are likely on Friday. More than 2 inches of rain in the forecast. Expect flash flooding in the usual flood-prone areas.
Hurricane Joaquin is not expected to hit us, if it travels in this direction, until Sunday or Monday, I believe. The hurricane could also stay offshore before making landfall farther to the north.

The pole was replaced and the trail open again on my commute home this evening. Everything back to normal.

I don’t get why they’re making the temporary detours so narrow. Did they forget there’s two-way traffic on the MVT?
And why the sharp bend off of the paved trail rather than a more gradual entrance onto the detour section? The people who designed this need to get out of their offices and experience the havoc they are creating.

I got a response to my Call.Click.Connect submission regarding the situation at Potomac Yard Trail and Braddock Road.
For context, this is the original submission I wrote:
Here is the response I received today:
I replied with thanks for the consideration and requested that the remaining bollard have reflective striping added for better visibility. While it doesn’t appear that both bollards will be removed, at the very least one will be taken out.
The bollard still has not been removed, but the city has added reflective material to the bollards.
