ParticipantLooks like I’ve lost my morning scenic route for now – the “branch” of Mt. Vernon Trail that runs through Union St. There’s construction going on Union St. between Wolfe and King. This is the 2nd day in a row that the northbound lane on Union St. has been blocked by a tractor/crane. I was in a group of 3 cyclists plus a car that was stuck waiting for the heavy equipment to move on and off the road.

Hains Point laps this weekend??? Probably nope. Music festival taking place. http://www.landmarkfestival.org/ #bikedc
I think you can still do laps. The festival map shows closure of Ohio Drive around West Potomac park. Unless something else is happening at the Point. From signage though it looks like that section of Ohio Drive will be also closed this coming Friday and next Monday.

Lee and Royal are good alternates that have access to the MVT via Jones Point Park. The only challenge with Lee is that the parking lot between Oronoco and Pendleton sometimes has a chain blocking the North side — it is usually up in the mornings and down in the evenings. Lee is probably the most pleasant, traffic wise, of the three in the afternoon too.

Thanks, I’ll try Lee, if only because I’ve never ridden it on my morning commute before.

Glad to help. Just make sure to watch out for that chain in the morning, it is the sort of chain that would throw you from the bike if it is up. You may need to go around to Union or Fairfax and back on Pendleton for that last block on the North to get back to the trail.

ParticipantI almost forgot to report the broken glass on the MUP running along Rt.1 then crossing the bridge to Washington Blvd. Called VDOT. They said they opened a ticket.

ParticipantTerrible pothole (trench?) on Jefferson Davis Hwy southbound at the intersection of E. Reed Ave (sorry, no pictures). Right by where they are constructing the new apartment block. They had done some sort of trenching and the reinstatement has completely deteriorated. It crosses the entire lane as far as I can tell, and caught me completely by surprise.

ParticipantLooks like the bike lane light(s) on First St NE and – I think – K St – might have been moved to the left by a prankster? The cyclists who are supposed to look at these lights have no chance of seeing them. Who do I report this to? This in the NOMA BID in DC.

Sorry, I don’t know how to fix the image rotation problem.

ParticipantHere are pics of what the temporary detours look like as of this morning (9/29). There’s also one up the hill that looks even more treacherous. The thick wood chip surface and narrow width should make passing through this area problematic.

They made me happy I have switched to using my CX bike for commuting to squeeze in practice loops at the Anacostia River Park and Gravelly Point CX courses.

I don’t get why they’re making the temporary detours so narrow. Did they forget there’s two-way traffic on the MVT?
