I have Coeur d’Alene on my list of places to visit. It looks absolutely gorgeous. What’s the best time of year to hike / bike ?

May/June are pretty good. Late July and August can get pretty hot (like, over 100) for short stretches. I’ve never ridden it, but the Route of the Hiawatha is supposed to an awesome ride. The Centennial trail is also good and I’ve never seen more than a couple people on it. For hiking, Tubbs Hill is a super easy one that’s right in town. Mineral Ridge is also good and close by. Further out, places like Revett Lake are fun day trips.

What a great ride and way to see DC. I had technical difficulties (broken chain) plus was spent after some of the hills. Still, I think I hit 35 or so states and 53 miles… my longest ride so far. Fun to ride with old friends (early) and make new friends (later).
Pics to come once I learn how to upload em.

REM’s “Don’t Go Back to Rockville” for Maryland? I don’t know if that song is actually about Rockville, Maryland, though.

Lore has it that REM had some really bad experience in Rockville MD….

Coeur d’Alene was the place where I first tried to ride in the mountains. I was still a smoker back then, in the 1990’s. I didn’t get very far, panting and gasping my way back down in defeat.

For North Carolina, the song I would recommend is “Carolina” by Jason Harrod.

I will stand up for the old people, and all that is good and holy, and stick with James Taylor for that.

Virginia: “Old Dominion” by Eddie from Ohio, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s9-7VVP5WTM

She’s the best of 13 sisters and 37 more.
