I should have ridden with you. I was singing every state song I could think of, but your group came up with way more. Maybe next year we need a guide to state songs to share with participants ahead of time.

ParticipantOr you could make it easy on yourself with “I’ve Been Everywhere” Tom T Hall or Johnny Cash

Idaho:
Apparently the post-Creed* bro-rock band Alter Bridge has a song called “Coeur d’Alene”, which is the Idaho city of my birth. That said, I do not have sufficient love for my home state to waste brain cells listening to Alter Bridge in order to hear what the song has to say.
*I admit to having seen Creed in concert twice…The first time I was actually there to see Sevendust**, with whom they were touring, and the second was at a Winter Olympic medal ceremony in SLC, so the Creed show was coincidental. Judge me all you want the shame no longer haunts me.
**holy f&*k I just looked it up and realized that I suppressed the memory of Nickleback playing this concert as well, although I absolutely had never heard of them at the time and remember thinking that they totally sucked.

Here’s a better song about Idaho: https://youtu.be/XW20q1_XbVU
The challenge I face is that most of the state named or themed songs I know of are by bands that few other people have heard of.

No, “Private Idaho” by B-52s.

ParticipantOkay for Idaho you got the BoDeans: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6dXpqRhBg2I
Or B52s Private Idaho: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PtTVyb0qU90
For Maryland you could go with Mary Prankster’s Blue Skies over Dundalk: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lgl08LZQ3EASeptember 11, 2017 at 7:54 pm #1075475LhasaCM

I’m partial to the theme from hit Broadway musical “Oh yes Wyoming” as seen in the Seinfeld/Superman AMEX commercials back in ’04(?).

ParticipantMaybe we could get WABA to add that to the cue sheet. It would only add a few more pages!

ParticipantA couple of gaps can be filled with John Linnel’s “State Songs” album. He’s one half of the They Might Be Giants duo, for those that don’t know him by name.
For Virginia, of course there’s the totally inappropriate “Carry Me Back to Old Virginny,” or the much preferable “Shenandoah.”

ParticipantREM’s “Don’t Go Back to Rockville” for Maryland? I don’t know if that song is actually about Rockville, Maryland, though.

I have Coeur d’Alene on my list of places to visit. It looks absolutely gorgeous. What’s the best time of year to hike / bike ?
