That’s a really weird sweat stain on the front of that jersey.
My first thought was “Who spilled coffee down the front of that nice orange jersey?”

You just wish you could represent the Great Mitten State. Sadly, I don’t think you’d fit in either of my awesome 2 Michigan jerseys. So sorry Judd, you’ll have to settle and wear your jersey from a significantly less awesome state.

I’ll be there. I’m not as fast as some – but I’m gonna try to do the 50 States. We shall see! It’ll be my longest ride so far. Weather should be perfect!!
A first timer!? How exciting! It is a blast. It is hard, no doubt, but it is really any truly for all folks on all bikes, at all paces. Everyone has their own style: mine is to leave room in the tank for the back half of the route (lots of hills in NE/NW), don’t stay at stops for too long (lest your legs get”cold”), and don’t eat the entire lunch burrito!

That sounds good. How do you know your time slot? I have not received any notification.
Marshals were given assigned slots in and email they sent out a few weeks ago. I don’t believe there are set times for riders, I expect a get-ready-and-roll-out approach. I’m sure all will be revealed when they send out the “Read Before You Ride” message.

What’s that big coffee splotch on your jersey?

ParticipantOK, I was on the fence for awhile, but just signed up for the full 50 States route! The start is only a mile from my house, so I have no excuse. Would love to join your group Kitty! And you all have nice home state jerseys. The bad news is I don’t have a jersey from my home state to wear. I’m from NY, specifically Long Island, and I’ve looked around from time to time for a nice-looking Long Island-themed jersey (nautical, beach, lighthouse, etc) but haven’t found anything. Then again I’ve lived in DC so long I consider it my true home.

ParticipantI knew you’d ride. Resistance is futile. Be prepared for a long day. Stop signs and traffic lights slow everyone down. A lot.

ParticipantThe course for the this year’s ride has been released. They will have to rename it the 49 States ride, since it doesn’t actually go on Oregon Avenue, but only crosses it. I was wondering what they planned to do with the Bingham Drive closure in Rock Creek Park. The route goes along the bike path along Bingham and Oregon, which could be a problem with a lot of cyclists. I’m surprised they didn’t route it via Wise Road instead.

ParticipantYeeep, its been given a nice (new) name of the Oregon Trail/Path something like that.
In other news, about 10 hours before ride start I had to fix my first flat. It seems the patch-job I did on one of my road wheels didn’t hold, so I had to install my spare tube. Oh course this was after I went to the bike shop to by CO2 carts (which had since closed). If anyone has a spare that will fit 23s, I’ll buy it off of you.
Aside from all of that, I’m excited by the number of folks who want to ride with me! I will be using ride marshal prerogative to set my own pace on riding and breaks, so if you ever want to ride ahead or rest longer, I understand. If we can keep the crew together, awesome! If not, let us reconvene at the end over beer and food. 😎

ParticipantJust threw a spare 20-25 tube in my bag for you Kitty. I also will have a patch kit on me tomorrow.

ParticipantThanks Judd! This is one of those rides where being without is asking for it. Hopefully we won’t need it though… *fingers crossed*

ParticipantYes, the cue sheet can be a bit bothersome. However, this year WABA had a Ride with GPS route. Using it was wonderful! I still looked at the cue sheet to get a preview of coming turns, but mostly relied on the Ride with GPS route. My phone battery, set to low-powered, even lasted the whole ride.

And yes, I have already used it for a strava ride title.
