I apologize in advance for this posting but I just got laid off today. My background is automotive repair but I’m looking for a new challenge. Email me off list if you know of an opening pertaining to the bike industry or anything related. Thanks. flindo5830@gmail.com

Sorry to hear that–if you’re up for doing some bike mechanic type stuff, you might want to check in with some of the local shops. I seem to remember hearing that they were always having trouble finding enough mechanics.

Very sorry to hear it. Also check Washcycle, where want ads for jobs in the area are sometimes posted. Best wishes.

The Bike Lane in Reston was looking for salespeople and mechanics recently.

Thanks Tim K. I’ve looked into that as well and so far it’s moving slowly forward. X-ing fingers.

I did fill out the app but no word yet. I guess they were overwhelmed with applicants. Thanks for the heads-up.

My biggest condolences on your plight.

Don’t overlook the federal government. Check USAJobs.com

How about Capital Bikeshare, Metro, Amtrak, VRE, MARC?

I would also make cold calls and not necessarily rely only on ad postings.

    Good luck!

I’ve been there before, I know how hard it is. Good on you for taking the opportunity to try something new. Good luck!

Aww man sorry to hear about that.

If you haven’t come by south pickett st in Alexandria there are now 3 high end dealers (and a Nissan plus a Mini a few blocks up), two indy shops and two body shops in a few blocks. Places like Lindsey and Koons both have high volume body repair facilities in the west end, you should check it out if you decide to stick with cars.

I agree with making cold calls, stop by somewhere you want to work and speak with whomever is in charge of hiring. The auto service industry doesn’t usually follow white collar guidelines I imagine bike shops operate in a similar manner.

What do you have to lose if you walk in with a resume and speak to the manager…Go get ’em!

Last time I was at Performance Bike in Tysons/Vienna they said they were short staffed. Sure did seem like it!

Not a whole lot of detail, but if you’re flexible Lose the Training Wheels sounds kind of cool.

    Steve,

I know that area. I used to be with Stohlman/Passport Nissan on Pickett for many years. The staff in there is my extended family.

Gotta love the small world we operate in.

I’ve been next door since 06.

We have an empty bay over here. They are having a wicked time finding anyone with product experience.
