I agree!! I was there in 2006 for my first ever trip across an ocean to do a solo tour. It was a short little trip from Inverness to Edinburgh using the National Cycle Network and I had an amazing time. My pictures were amazing, and the air was SO fresh. The people were great, and the whisky was soothing. One day I’d like to try JOGLE, but really Scotland has all you would ever want. The novelty of riding on the other side of the road was kinda cool too.

Re-reading this makes me realize how much of a noob I was with cycling and touring in 2006. I’m still a bit of a noob when it comes to touring, but at least I can say now that 50 miles is not exactly an all day ride… UNLESS you’re stopping to smell the roses, as you do on any good tour.

My only regret is that given it was my first real tour, first time in a different country besides Canada, first time across the ocean, I was alone, and the idea of getting off a plane in northern Scotland with only a bike freaked me out – is that I wasn’t more ambitious about the ride. I could have seen way more stuff had I ridden more but oh well…. I’ll have to go back.

Way cool and very brave of you to do the trip!!!

Too bad you didn’t see much in the way of sun however.

Now I’m thinking of a trip to Scotland…..

If you’re on Instagram, follow “bunyanvelo”, he and another are doing an excellent tour of Scotland and down into the southern parts (now). Excellent pics. My favorites were the shots of Ben Nevis.
