Last minute entry here! I should be there.

Do I have to be seen in public?

Excellent–make sure to bring your throwing arm. We’ve got tons of beads!

All kidding aside, this is a fun event. It is a very slow parade.

I took my bike out this afternoon to make sure I had a comfortable gear to start and stop every twenty feet or so. Otherwise, my knees will howl the next morning.

You don’t have to wear a costume.
But it is a parade and you are in it. People expect to see something other than the ordinary. It’s in Arlington, folks are used to seeing bikes. (Unlike the suburbs where you’re a novelty act by definition just being on a bike)

Mostly, they expect you to throw beads.

If you aren’t comfortable with people in your face, stick to the middle of the road.

Once the parade starts rolling you won’t feel cold. It sounds like the weather will be in the 40s, that’s very comfortable.

Beads are strung along the handlebars of your bike. They can be pulled off strand-by-strand and flung into the crowd.

Sounds good. The only pink tutus I have at home are just a little bit too small for me so I won’t be in peacock garb. I’ll probably just do jeans and sneakers but I’ll try to wear something in hi-vis orange as well that doesn’t interfere with my throwing arm.

Well, I was all set to do the whole tutu, sparkle bike, feathered headdress extravaganza.

I could lie and say commonsense and good taste overcame me but that hasn’t happened before so I know you wouldn’t believe me.

I’m trying to be quasi-helpful and move some swag around this afternoon. A giant tutu isn’t practical for that sort of thing.
So I’m going with something smaller. It’s every bit as atrocious as the other costume, just easier to move around in.

A costume can be as simple as a brightly colored scarf or a pair of long elbow length gloves. Oh heck, drape yourself in Mardi Gras beads, that works.

Where are we meeting, I just tried to google it and I cannot find a veitch street that crosses with wilson blvd. Does someone have the exact address of the dunking donuts where we are meeting.

    Thanks
    LIZ W.

I finally figured it out it was north veitch. I am directionally challenged but i will be there hopefully.

Lots of good pictures from Mardi Gras. Unfortunately…. well, its hard to take pics in the dark. Lots of usual suspects came out blurry. Not sure if they had celebrated too much or it was my unsteady hand.

Nice to meet Liz W, and see many of the regulars out there. If I do this next year I’ll definitely bling it up a bit more. And hold onto my goodies for a longer – I gave out all my candy, stickers and beads within the first 1/4 of the parade.

Great pic of Princess Peach and Zanna.

Just spotted Mark, MegaBeth and RCannon behind them (where a little whippersnapper snuck into his dog carrier).

Sorry we had to bail. On the way home, Sydney said that she wanted to go because her teeth hurt (stupid 2 year molars), the “trumpets” were too loud, and a certain other mini-Kelley wasn’t there. So blame Tim. :-)

But it was fun to see everyone briefly. Sydney loves her new necklace! Thanks.
