I’m registered, but I’m not nearly as prepared for it as I was last year. It’s going to be an interesting training month… :/

I’ll be a volunteer :) I’ll be at CP #1 in the early morning, then off to CP 6 until early afternoon, then at the finish.

There is a special place in heaven for people like you. Wow, to volunteer in this heat.

Well, the heat didn’t seem to be quite as bad as I had expected. Of course, I wasn’t riding hah. I did get a chance to meet Pete, though he was probably wondering “who the hell is thus weirdo?”. I hope everyone finished safely, I know there were some route marking issues and some angry people. Everyone let the volunteers know we were very much appreciated, so thanks!

Most people don’t walk away from a first meeting with Pete thinking “I’m the weird one”.

I see Tim Kelley already posted his Total 200 results to Strava. He was 2nd place overall and got a few KOMs even. Congratulations, Tim!

Congrats to his Garmin battery, as well, which appears to have survived for over 11 hours.

Will post if I notice evidence of anyone else having endured this adventure.

Consularrider did an AMAZING ride yesterday. Tim was fantastic. As Liz said, Tim took 2nd over all. Consularrider finished out with over 200 miles for the day. I pulled the plug at mile 178. I was still too sick to keep riding. I couldn’t eat. Totally happy with the way the ride went though. I’ll post up a few photos when I get power and internet back.

Seriously nice to see Megabeth and Mark out there too. I got to ride a bit with Mark and Megan was AWESOME at helping me in the aid stations and when I finally decided I needed to pull the plug on the ride. Amazing people!

I heard some comments about the course marking… The storm made that difficult. It was perfectly marked, but some of the arrows got covered or taken away by the storm. The cue sheet was spot on and the GPS files made the nav easy and accurate. That was an insane ride to organize. I can’t believe they did it so well… especially in the heat.

My hat is off to all the people who volunteered! It was awesome to see Arlingtonrider and Certifried down there. Thanks so much for all the great work. Volunteers make that ride work and it worked very, very well.

    I’ll catch up more tomorrow.

There were some angry people on the ride, unfortunately. The first trouble I saw was at CP #1 when the large mass of everyone rode up at once. There was no easy water nearby to fill the water coolers, but… I was kind of wondering why so many needed to fill up so soon! I saw more than a few people with just 1 water bottle, on a super hot day! Still shaking my head over that.

The next was the complaints about the markings. Again, I’m shaking my head why people wouldn’t have cue sheets and the GPS file. One guy did say he had issues with the file, but he was doing well by the cue sheet (until we SAG’d him and 5 others back from CP #6).

Great job to you riders! That guy who was #1 on the 200miler was insane, I think he said he took a wrong turn and did about 220+ miles and he was still in at a crazy time! (oh, and by insane I mean “insanely good”. He sat around and chatted with us a while, super nice guy)
