I’m rather stunned the UK is the brightest of the bunch. I don’t recall seeing that many cyclists (certainly not the type to use Strava) when I was living there.

Cool heatmap! I really like how defined the trails around here become when you factor in the Strava activity.

I was interested in seeing what the weather was like for those days because it could help account for the difference between cycling here and in London, so I checked it out.

The Weather Channel shows the following for July 20, 2013:
    – DC – high of 94o F and low of 80o F (not including the heat index)
    – London – high of 72o F and low of 63o F (and yes, I converted the London temperatures into Fahrenheit, the horror!)

I’m interested to see what the heatmap around here for this past Saturday (August 3rd weather was cloudy with a high of 83o F and low of 70o F) would look like in comparison to July 20th, considering the weather was so much nicer.

Im surprised at how little action there is at Hains Point on a Saturday. Maybe everyone saves that for weekdays. Pretty cool visualization though.

RaceShape also does a strava heat map. although you cant filter based on time. http://raceshape.com/heatmap/

Great heatmap!! I would like to see this Strava activity. Good to see the box types of data maps.

Amazing to see which states had little or no riding.

And then there’s Saskatchewan. Seriously. One rider logging Strava miles in the entire province.

And don’t get me started on Nunavut or the Northern Territories. Tuktoyaktuk…really? Nobody on a Moonlander last Saturday?

Cool to see spots like Western MA and NH, NC, GA, and the Western states all lit up, thougn.
