What: Bike Wash and Board Games Party benefiting Kitty’s Climate Ride, hosted by Emm, Kitty and Judd.

When: Saturday August 5th. 3-6 PM for the bike wash, 6PM-whenever for a bbq and board games party

Where: Emm’s house. 7611 Range Rd, Alexandria VA 22306. Accessible via the MVT (directions below)

Suggested donation: $10, paid online, or in person. All of it will go to fund the Climate Ride fundraising for Kitty and other Climate riders.

Details: We’ll host a bike wash from 3-6 in my driveway. Judd has kindly offered to bring bike washing supplies, and give everyone directions on how to wash their bike. Kitty will dress up and cheer everyone on. My lawn makes a fantastic drying rack for bikes, so go ahead and bring your dirtiest, grimiest bike and Judd will show you how to get it clean and we’ll make sure it’s nice and dry by the time you need to head home. We’ll have plenty of hoses, sponges, buckets, and de-greaser.

From 6-whenever, we’ll move inside or to the backyard for a bbq and board game party. I’ll provide burgers, a vegetarian option, and a side dish (likely comprised of some mix of tomatoes and cucumbers…), and whatever mid-range beer is on sale at Costco next Friday. Feel free to bring drinks, or other food options, although it’s not required.

We own about a million board games, including Cards against Humanity, Exploding Kittens (w/ Imploding Kittens expansion pack), Bears Vs Babies, Settlers of Catan, Hot Tin Roof, plus the classics like scrabble, Monopoly, Risk, Sequence and more. But feel free to bring whatever games you want, especially if they’re bike themed. My house has space for 3-4 games to be run simultaneously.

Directions: This is the suggested bike route to my house. It’s mostly on the MVT and neighborhood streets, and Sherwood Hall has a bike lane after Ft. Hunt. If you’d like to avoid the hill on Park Terrance or avoid crossing the GW Parkway, here is an alternate route that avoids the big hill and the GW Parkway Crossing. If you want a route with more hills, here you go.

There is also plenty of parking for those who want to drive. Unfortunately, my house is not super metro accessible, so if metro is your thing you’d need to Uber from the closest station, which is Huntington.

Hey all, thank YOU for being such an awesome gang of friends and personifications of this broader cycling community!

I had an absolute blast! (Despite probably waiting too long to leave and was very tired riding home). Thanks to Emm for hosting, Emm and Judd for the idea, and everyone who came!

Total event take (donations across all platforms): $153! A bunch of which going to help the funds of fellow TeamWABA members who need a bit more help going into the final weeks of fundraising.

    Thank you all again! 😎

Thanks again to everyone who came over. Outside of the fact that I had to spend all day Sunday comforting Nimitz after Steve O rejected his doggy kisses, the bike wash and board games party was a ton of fun.

Seriously though–I love hosting people and you are all a truly wonderful group of friends, so I’m more than happy to have everyone over again for an Exploding Kittens or Velocipedes against Humanity rematch in the future. And best of luck finishing up your fundraising Kitty! I’m glad we were able to help a few more riders get towards their goal.

Just think of his trauma had Steve O embraced the hound!

Have fun, take lots of pictures, and someone please kindly post the most outlandish Cards Against Humanity combinations that are made!

Ack! We forgot to take pictures. We played the bike version (Cards against Velocipedes. Or Velocipedes against Humanity. Or Velocicards against Humanipedes. Or something)

There were a number that were pretty funny. Here are two that I remember:

The second one was topical, given POTM was there. I think LOTM will now be wearing his BA cycling cap pretty much all the time.

I’m just honored that there’s a card in the set about me! (“Kitty in a Penguin Costume”)

I’m pretty sure that “What’s in Judd Lumberjack’s pockets?” is the best card.

UPDATE: As no one objected, beans have been “baking” all night. Judging by how they smell I would expect more of a curry experience than a “Bush’s” experience. Should be fun. 😎

It would be lovely if you could come Nadine, even if it is to just make an appearance. I completely understand about the husband situation though.

Last night I had to talk through this with mine, explaining that he is always welcome to my bike social events, but that I’m riding there, and this one is further afield than he’s attempted. If he wanted to go for it, I would be happy and support him, but if he needed SAG to get home, I couldn’t help. The option for him to drive was also put on the table, but the more important point was “The decision is yours and I will love and support whichever one you decide for yourself. Regardless, I will be home late.”

I’m sorry I didn’t make it, Kitty. I should have come just to put in an appearance, as you said. It wouldabin a lovely ride. Well except for all those people on the trail! I always have that conflict when there are Sat pm biking activities. Somehow it’s not such a big deal during the day… And mine doesn’t drive, so the driving option isn’t there for him. He actually doesn’t drive, drink, or, these days, ride a bike. I hafta do all three. Can you beLIEVE it? 😮

I hope to see you soon at the next thing….. I did enjoy the pictures….
